(式中、Lは単結合、あるいは2価以上の連結基を表し、Tは一般式(1)で表される構造のR1〜R16のいずれかから水素原子などの原子を脱離して得られる基、又はR1〜R16のいずれか1つを除いて得られる基を表す。nは2以上の整数を表し、複数のTは互いに独立であり、互いに同じでも異なっていてもよい。)

3)前記Lが、単結合、2価以上の芳香環、2価以上の芳香族複素環、炭素原子、窒素原子、又はケイ素原子であることを特徴とする1)又は2)に記載の有機電界発光素子。

一般式(2)で表される化合物のT1レベルは55Kcal/mol(251.0KJ/mol)以上85Kcal/mol(355.6KJ/mol)以下が好ましく、60Kcal/mol(272.0KJ/mol)以上85Kcal/mol(355.6KJ/mol)以下がより好ましい。
一般式(1)又は(2)で表される化合物と三重項発光材料の比は、前者の構造、後者のT1レベルなどによって異なるが、質量比で好ましくは50:50〜99.9:0.1、より好ましくは80:20〜99:1である。
(1)電荷輸送部位が多い分、キャリア輸送能が向上して、これにより効率が向上するために結果的に耐久性が向上する、
(2)分子のアモルファス性が向上し、又はTgが向上して、素子中での結晶化、又は界面混合が抑制されるため耐久性が向上する、

本発明の発光素子の発光層中に前記一般式(1)、一般式(2)、一般式(1A)、一般式(1B)、又は一般式(1C)で表される化合物が含まれる場合には、これらとともに電子注入輸送を担う化合物(B)を含んでもよい。
なお、本明細書及び請求の範囲においてヘテロアリール基とは、アリール基を構成する炭素原子の少なくとも1つがN,O,Sから選ばれる原子で置き換えられた基という意味である。
本発明の化合物を含有する発光素子の有機層の形成方法は、特に限定されるものではないが、抵抗加熱蒸着、電子ビーム、スパッタリング、分子積層法、コーティング法、インクジェット法、印刷法などの方法が用いられ、特性面、製造面で抵抗加熱蒸着、コーティング法、転写法が好ましい。
陽極の作製には材料によって種々の方法が用いられるが、例えばITOの場合、電子ビーム法、スパッタリング法、抵抗加熱蒸着法、化学反応法(ゾルーゲル法など)、酸化インジウムスズの分散物の塗布などの方法で膜形成される。
陽極は洗浄その他の処理により、素子の駆動電圧を下げたり、発光効率を高めることも可能である。例えばITOの場合、UV−オゾン処理、プラズマ処理などが効果的である。
陰極の作製には電子ビーム法、スパッタリング法、抵抗加熱蒸着法、コーティング法などの方法が用いられ、金属を単体で蒸着することも、二成分以上を同時に蒸着することもできる。さらに、複数の金属を同時に蒸着して合金電極を形成することも可能であり、またあらかじめ調整した合金を蒸着させてもよい。
陽極及び陰極のシート抵抗は低い方が好ましく、数百Ω/□以下が好ましい。
発光層の形成方法は、特に限定されるものではないが、抵抗加熱蒸着、電子ビーム、スパッタリング、分子積層法、コーティング法(スピンコート法、キャスト法、ディップコート法など)、インクジェット法、印刷法、LB法、転写法などの方法が用いられ、好ましくは抵抗加熱蒸着、コーティング法である。
正孔注入層、正孔輸送層の形成方法としては、真空蒸着法やLB法、前記正孔注入輸送材料を溶媒に溶解又は分散させてコーティングする方法(スピンコート法、キャスト法、ディップコート法など)、インクジェット法、印刷法、転写法が用いられる。コーティング法の場合、樹脂成分と共に溶解又は分散することができ、樹脂成分としては例えば、ポリ塩化ビニル、ポリカーボネート、ポリスチレン、ポリメチルメタクリレート、ポリブチルメタクリレート、ポリエステル、ポリスルホン、ポリフェニレンオキシド、ポリブタジエン、ポリ(N−ビニルカルバゾール)、炭化水素樹脂、ケトン樹脂、フェノキシ樹脂、ポリアミド、エチルセルロース、酢酸ビニル、ABS樹脂、ポリウレタン、メラミン樹脂、不飽和ポリエステル樹脂、アルキド樹脂、エポキシ樹脂、シリコン樹脂などが挙げられる。
電子注入層、電子輸送層の形成方法としては、真空蒸着法やLB法、前記電子注入輸送材料を溶媒に溶解又は分散させてコーティングする方法(スピンコート法、キャスト法、ディップコート法など)、インクジェット法、印刷法、転写法などが用いられる。コーティング法の場合、樹脂成分と共に溶解又は分散することができ、樹脂成分としては例えば、正孔注入輸送層の場合に例示したものが適用できる。
保護層の形成方法についても特に限定はなく、例えば真空蒸着法、スパッタリング法、反応性スパッタリング法、MBE(分子線エピタキシ)法、クラスターイオンビーム法、イオンプレーティング法、プラズマ重合法(高周波励起イオンプレーティング法)、プラズマCVD法、レーザーCVD法、熱CVD法、ガスソースCVD法、コーティング法、印刷法、転写法を適用できる。
洗浄したITO基板を蒸着装置に入れ、まず正孔輸送材料としてα−NPD(N,N’−ジフェニル−N,N’−ジ(α−ナフチル)−ベンジジン)を50nm蒸着した。この上に化合物(1−4)と化合物aを17対1の比率(重量比)で36nmの厚さに共蒸着し、この上にアゾ−ル化合物bを36nm蒸着した。有機薄膜上にパターニングしたマスク(発光面積が4mm×5mmとなるマスク)を設置し、蒸着装置内でフッ化リチウムを約1nm蒸着し、この上にアルミニウムを膜厚約200nm蒸着して素子を作製した。東陽テクニカ製ソースメジャーユニット2400型を用いて、直流定電圧をEL素子に印加し発光させ、その輝度をトプコン社の輝度計BM−8、発光波長を浜松フォトニクス社製スペクトルアナライザーPMA−11(それぞれ商品名)を用いて測定した。
その結果、色度値(0.27、0.62)の緑色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は7.1%であった。
また本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間約520時間である。
なお本実施例及び以下の実施例で用いた化合物の構造を次に示す。
化合物(1−4)の代わりに化合物(1−4)と化合物cを重量比1:1で混合したものを用いた以外は、実施例1と同様にして素子作製評価した。その結果、色度値(0.28、0.62)の緑色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は12.1%であった。
本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間は約620時間である。
実施例3
化合物(1−4)の代わりに化合物(1−4)と化合物dを重量比1:1で混合したものを用いた以外は、実施例1と同様に素子作製評価した。その結果、色度値(0.28、0.62)の緑色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は9.1%であった。
本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間約780時間である。
実施例4
化合物aの代わりに化合物eを用い、実施例1と同様に素子作製評価した。その結果、色度値(0.17、0.26)の青色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は9.5%であった。
本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間約400時間である。
α−NPDの代わりに化合物(1−5)を用い、化合物(1−4)の代わりにCBP(4,4’−ビス(N−カルバゾリル)ビフェニル)を用いた以外は実施例1と同様に素子作成評価した。その結果、色度値(0.27、0.61)の緑色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は13.2%であった。
本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間約280時間であった。
実施例6
洗浄したITOガラス基板上に、ホール輸送層のBaytron P(PEDOT−PSS溶液(ポリエチレンジオキシチオフェン−ポリスチレンスルホン酸ドープ体)/バイエル社製、商品名)をスピンコートした後、100℃で1時間真空乾燥した(膜厚約100nmが形成)。ポリマー(1−11)40mg、化合物a 1mg、化合物d 6mg、をクロロフォルム3.8gに溶解し、上記の基板上にスピンコートし(膜厚約50〜70nm)、100℃で30分真空乾燥する。この基板上に電子輸送材料dを約36nm、さらにLiFを膜厚約1nmを順に10−3〜10−4Paの真空中で、基板温度室温の条件下蒸着する。この上にパターニングしたマスク(発光面積が5nm×4nmとなるマスク)を設置し、アルミニウムを膜厚約200nm蒸着して素子を作製する。
東陽テクニカ製ソースメジャーユニット2400型を用いて、直流定電圧を作成した素子に印加し発光させ、その輝度をトプコン社の輝度計BM−8、発光波長を浜松フォトニクス社製スペクトルアナライザーPMA−11(それぞれ商品名)を用いて測定した。
その結果、色度値(0.26、0.60)の緑色発光が得られ、素子の外部量子効率は7.1%であった。
また本素子の素子耐久性評価を初期輝度2000cd/m2、電流値一定にて行うと輝度半減時間約120時間である。
Claims (9)
- 一対の電極間に、発光層を含む少なくとも一層の有機層を有する有機電界発光素子であって、前記有機層に一般式(2)で表される化合物の少なくとも1種を含有することを特徴とする有機電界発光素子。
一般式(2)
L−(T)n
(式中、Lは単結合、あるいは2価以上の連結基を表し、Tは一般式(1)で表される構造のR1〜R16のいずれかから原子を脱離して得られる基、又はR1〜R16のいずれか1つを除いて得られる基を表す。nは2以上の整数を表し、複数のTは互いに独立であり、互いに同じでも異なっていてもよい。)

(式中、R1、R2、R3、R4、R5、R6、R7、R8、R9、R10、R11、R12、R13、R14、R15、R16は水素原子もしくは置換基を表す。) - 前記Lが、単結合、又はC、N、O、S、Si及びGeからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1つの原子を含有して形成される連結基であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記Lが、単結合、2価以上の芳香環、2価以上の芳香族複素環、炭素原子、窒素原子、又はケイ素原子であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記Lが、単結合、2価以上のベンゼン、2価以上のナフタレン、2価以上のビフェニル、2価以上のテルフェニル、2価以上のトリフェニレン、2価以上のフェナンスレン、2価以上のトリアゾール、2価以上のピリジン、2価以上のピリミジン、炭素原子、窒素原子、又はケイ素原子であることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記発光層に、三重項発光材料を含有することを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記一般式(2)で表される化合物の少なくとも1種が発光層に含まれることを特徴とする請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 前記発光層中に、さらに電子注入輸送化合物を含有することを特徴とする請求項1〜6のいずれか1項に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 電子注入輸送性化合物が金属錯体であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の有機電界発光素子。
- 電子注入輸送性化合物が、窒素原子を少なくとも2つ含むヘテロ環化合物であることを特徴とする請求項7又は8記載の有機電界発光素子。
