Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of printing quality caused by the thermal deterioration of the LED element of a printer head and the decreasing of a light emitting quantity by controlling the turning-on and -off of a cooling fan and the start and stop of printing, based on the information of a temp. sensor. CONSTITUTION:The temp. sensor 2 is attached to the printer head 1, and the cooling fan 3 is arranged in the vicinity of the printer head 1. The sensor 2 serves as a thermistor. The information of the sensor 2 is inputted into a cooling fan control part 4 and a printing control part 5. The control part 4 controls the turning-on and -off of the fan 3, based on the information of the sensor 2 to cool the printer head 3. On the other hand, the control part 5 controls the start and stop of the printing and the display of printer inner information to a display part 6, based on the information of the sensor 2. When the temp. of the printer head 1 is higher than that of a set value, a temp. state for the display part 6 is displayed and the printing is carried out in wait for the dropping of the temp.

Conventionally, LED printers do not have a heat generation detection means for a print head consisting of a light emitting diode (LED) array, and print operations are performed regardless of the heat generation state of the print head.

The above-mentioned conventional LED printer requires a power supply current of 20 to 30 A to flow through the print head, and if continuous black printing is performed with all dots on the print head lit,
The print head becomes hot. When the print head becomes hot, the amount of light emitted by the LEDs decreases, resulting in poor print quality. Another drawback is that the deterioration of the LED is accelerated.
