Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title product having increased conjugated polyene content, light color and low viscostiy, and usefua as a raw material of paint, etc., by adding heated drying oil, unsaturated fatty acid, etc., dropwise to an organic solvent solution of iodine (compound).
CONSTITUTION: The objective isomerized product is prepared by heating a drying oil, an unsaturated fatty acid, or their derivatives at a proper temperature, and adding dropwise to a solution obtained by dissolving iodine or an iodine compound which easily liberates iodine (e.g. iodoform) in an organic solvent (e.g. ethanol). The iodine acts as a catalyst.
EFFECT: The generated reaction heat can be removed by the large evaporation heat of the organic solvent, and the local heating can be prevented.
