Abstract
PURPOSE: To denitrate efficiently without removing sulfur oxide and to prevent the secondary public pollution by a method wherein nitrogen oxide within an exhaust gas is converted by oxidation and, after washed by an alkali washing liquid, decomposed by aluminum or the like.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen oxide within the exhaust gas is firstly converted to nitrogen dioxide by an oxidizing agent such as ozone or the like and, subsequently, washed by an alkali washing liquid such as sodium hydroxide or the like to fix the nitrogen dioxide within the washing liquid. Thereafter, alminum or an aluminum alloy is added to the washing liquid in an amount of equivalent or more per nitrogen oxide to convert the washing liquid to a strong alkaline liquid and this liquid is heated. Thereby, by the reducing action of the added aluminum or the like, nitrogen oxide ion within the washing liquid is converted to ammonia efficiently. By this method, even if sulfur oxide is contained, the exhaust gas is efficiently denitrated and purified and the secondary public pollution such as red tide or the like is not occured.
