Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain electrode for electrolysis which is excellent in electrode catalytic activity, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength against bubbling upon electrolysis by providing a film containing a specific composition ratio of a PdO and Sb-partially substituted SnO and Pt added as needed on a conductive base.
CONSTITUTION: A solution or dispersion of PdO powder and a salt convertible into Pt upon heat decomposition, e.g., a chloroplatinate, etc., as needed in an appropriate solvent is first prepared, and then coated on a conductive base, particularly a Ti valve metal base, etc., and heated to form a precoat. Then, a solution of salt convertible into SnO2 upon heat decomposition (e.g., tin octenate) and a salt convertible into Sb2O3 upon heat decomposition (e.g., SbCl2) in a solvent is coated on the precoat and heated to obtain the subjective electrode. The coat of the electrode is preferably made up of 20W70mol% PdO and the remaining components (0W80mol% Pt and 100W20mol% SnO2 having 0.1W10mol% Sb substituent).
