Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a highly hard and high-modulus diene rubber, suitable for a tire, etc., by the polymerization of 1,3-butadiene in a solution of a highly cis-1,4- bonded polyisoprene or a nutural rubber, by use of a specified Co-containing polymerization catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: 1,3-Butadiene is polymerized in a solution of a polyisoprene having 90% or more cis-1,4 linkage and/or a natural rubber in a hydrocarbon or a halogenated hydrocarbon, by use of a catalyst consisting (A) a Co compound, (B) a compound selected from the group consisting of a trialkylaluminum, a dialkylaluminum hydride, an alkyl lithium compound, etc. and (C) carbon disulfide or phenyl isothiocyanate. Thus, a high-melting diene rubber, excellent in adhesion, tear strength, etc., and containing 2W40% syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene, is obtained.
