Abstract
PURPOSE:To create an optimum polishing state of abrasive members by controlling the ratios between the torque of the time when a weblike lubricating member is pressed to the surface of an electrostatic drum and the load of the whole member to be applied upon the drum at 0.2-2.0, more particularly, at 0.5-1.5. CONSTITUTION:Electrostatic latent images are formed on the surface of the electrostatic drum 10 of an electrostatic copying machine, and these are developed. Since the surfaces of the drum 10 stains on repetition of these, an abrasive member 2 is pressed to the drum surface by means of a pressure roll 4, whereby the drum surface is polished. Prior to the polishing, a web 6 contg. a lubricant such as, for example, polyethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene or paraffin wax is pressed by a roll 8 and the ratios between the torque 12 thereof and the load of the whole member to be applied upon the drum are controlled to 0.2-2.0, more particularly, 0.5-1.5. Conventional abrasives such as calcium carbonate, cerium oxide, magnesium oxide, and silicon oxide are used.
