Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an internal combustion engine against disorders and worsening of exhaustion caused by irregular discharge and misfiring by providing a means to output a signal by the detection of an abnormality in an ignition device on the basis of the degree of differece between the frequency of spark ignitions and the frequency of condenser discharges. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a means to output a signal by detecting an abnormality in an ignition device on the basis of the degree of difference between the frequency of spark ignitions detected from the frequency of a spark-ignition electric source and the frequency of condenser discharges of a plasma-ignition electric source. For example, a divided value S2' of a terminal voltage S2 of a condenser 8 is compared with a comparison voltage by a comparator 121 in a discrimination circuit 12 to be a square wave, and conveted into a voltage by an FV conversion circuit 122. Besides, a signal S1 on the negative side of an ignition coil 1 is also converted into a voltage by the FV conversion circuit 123. These voltages are compared in comparators 124 and 125. When the former is smaller than the latter by a set value or more, an alarm circuit 13 is operated to inform of a misfiring, and when the former is greater than the latter by a set value or more, a command signal is outputted to a plasma-ignition electric source 10 to tell an irregular discharge.
