Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the explosion resistance and enhance the mass production capability of a sealing body having a circular-arclike thin part which serves for the safety of a battery by breaking, by providing a resin-pouring gate, from which a resin subjected to injection molding is poured, at a symmetrical position relative to the thin part about the center of the sealing body. CONSTITUTION:A sealing body of an explosion-proof battery is provided with a thin part 22 which breaks when the internal pressure of the battery becomes unusually high, thereby any gases being discharged toward outside the battery. The sealing body is manufactured by pouring a thermoplastic resin into an injection- molding metal mold. Here, the shape of the former thin part 22 is a circular arc 5 which extends in the direction of the concentric circle of the sealing body, and a resin-pouring gate 3 provided in the molding metal mold is located at a symmetrical position relative to the former circular-arclike thin part 5 about the center of the sealing body. Owing to the above constitution of the metal mold, the welded surface of the poured resin coincides with the thin part 5. Consequently, the thin part 5 has less strength than any other part of the sealing body and efficiently works for the prevention of the battery explosion.
