Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a scanning optical system by which beam scanning speed is made constant on the surface to be scanned by removing the pitch unevenness of scanning lines by the use of a toric lens. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical lens 2 imaging the luminous flux emitting from a light source device 1 into a linear shape and a polarizer 3 having a polarization counter face 3a near the position where rays are converged into a linear shape by this lens are provided. A spherical single lens 4 and a toric single lens of refractive power differing in two orthogonal directions are disposed between this polarizer 3 and the medium 6 to be scanned. An imaging spot is formed on the medium 6 to be scanned by the composite system of these lenses and the spot scans on the medium 6 along with turning of the polarizer 3.
