Abstract

PURPOSE:To convert acoustic wave signals directly to light signals by using two diffraction gratings. CONSTITUTION:When voice causes a diaphragm 12 to vibrate and displace, diffraction gratings 14, 15 displace relatively in the arranging direction of the stripes thereof. The light transmitted through an optical fiber 16 is paralleled by a ''Selfoc lens '' 18 and is lighted to the diffraction gratings 14, 15 and the ligth 22 diffracted by the diffraction gratings 14, 15 is condensed by a ''Selfoc lens '' 19 and is transmitted to an optical fiber 17. At this time, the intensity of the light diffracted by the diffraction gratings 14, 15 and transmitted by the optical fiber 17 is modulated by the relative displacement of the diffraction gratings 14, 15. In this way, the voice signal of the diaphragm 12 vibrated by the voice of acoustic waves is directly transmitted as light signal.
