Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound, by oxidizing anthracene in the vapor phase with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst, particularly molybdenum and/or vanadium oxides.
CONSTITUTION: Anthracene (A) or an organic compond containing A, e.g. an anthracene fraction, is brought into contact with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas (G) in the presence of a vapor phase oxidation catalyst, e.g. molybdenum and/ or vanadium oxides at 300W650°C to give the objective compound in a simple step efficiently without using expensive durene. The molar ratio of A to G is 1:100,000W 1:100.
