Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled transparent film exhibiting low-temperature shrinkability and high thermal shrink stress and having excellent heat-sealability, by biaxially stretching a copolyester comprising terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol and a specified component in a specified condition.
CONSTITUTION: In melt-extruding a composition consisting mainly of a copolyester comprising (A) terephthalic acid and (B) ethylene glycol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, said component B containing 10W40mol% 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, through a circular die, cooling the extrudate and biaxially stretching it by a usual method; said copolyester is stretched at a stretch ratio of 2W6 under such a condition that the film surface temperature in the stretching zone (Tf1) is within the range of formula I, wherein Tg is the second-order transition point of the copolyester determined by DTA and the film surface temperature after stretching has a negative temperature gradient given by formula II, wherein Tf2 is a film surface temperature at a point 4.5d (d is the diameter of the starting film) ahead of the point at which stretching is completed. Copolymerization of the above third component makes it possible to obtain titled film having low-temperature shrinkability and a high thermal-shrinking force and good sealability and being transparent without detriment to heat and oil resistance.
