Abstract

PURPOSE:To separate and catch ferromagnetic and nonmagnetic dusts by generating gradient of a magnetic field in a passage before dust collection of an exhaust gas from a steel making furnace or a baking furnace. CONSTITUTION:In a hollow part of a hollow doughnut like filter 4 in a cylindrical filter container 3, a magnetic field generating apparatus 5 prepared by winding a coil 7 around an iron core 6 is placed. When current is passed to the coil 7 from a power source, a filter media 8 are magnetized uniformly. Then, when an exhaust gas containing steel making dust is introduced from an inlet 1 of a flue 9 and passed through said media 8, the gas is flowed between containers 3, 10 and passed through a pole piece 11 of the filter 4, the media 8 and a pole piece 12 to be discharged out to an outlet 2. In this case, a ferromagnetic particle such as Fe, Fe2O3 or the like in dust is adsorbed and removed to the media 8 and discharged dust contains a non-magnetic oxide in a high concn. and said oxide is caught in a dust collecting machine. The separated dust is subjected to various uses and effective utilization can be realized.
