Abstract

PURPOSE: A hollow fiber of crystalline, thermoplastic polymer, which has a number of fine, continuous pores passing through from the inside of the hollow part to the outside, is drawn and heat set under specific conditions to readily produce a hollow fiber with a high degree of porosity and remarkably increased membrane performance.
CONSTITUTION: A melt-processible, crystalline, thermoplastic polymer is made into hollow fibers including a number of continuous fine pores that pass through from the inside wall of the hollow part to the outside wall. The resultant hollow fibers are drawn and, when necessary, heat set. The drawing is effected in single stage of multistage at a draw ratio of 10W400, preferably 20W200%. The resultant hollow fibers consist of membranes with high degree of porosity.
