Abstract

PURPOSE: To heighten the radiation effect of a muffler, prevent its color from changing and facilitate its manufacturing, by effecting die-casting of aluminum to integrally mold the body of the muffler with an expansion chamber connection passage therein.

CONSTITUTION: A ring nut 28 is secured on the peripheral surface of the end of a double exhaust pipe 12, which is connected to an engine. Screw threads provided on the end of a muffler 14 made of die-cast aluminum are engaged in the nut 28. A partition wall 34 is provided in the muffler 14 to define expansion chambers 36, 38 which are connected to each other through a communication hole 48. The partition wall 34 is made by die-casting of aluminum as portions of the mnffler 14 together with another partition wall 44 for making the communication hole 48. An auxiliary silencing member 52 is appropriately provided at the exhaust port of the muffler 14. Exhaust gas enters into the first expansion chamber 36 of the muffler 14 through the inner tube 18 of the double exhaust pipe 12 and then flows into the second expansion chamber 50 through the passage 48. After that, the exhaust gas enters into the third expansion chamber 38 through the plural holes 68 of a partition wall 66 and is silenced by a sound absorber 58 in the silencing member 52 and then released to the outside.
