Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a copper alloy with which a product excellent in the bending workability and spring property can be readily prepared without adversly affecting the thermal and electrical conductivity of the phosphor bronze, by adding Zr to copper including Sn and P to improve the hot working property of the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: The copper alloy for conducting electricity is made up of 3.0W 12.0wt% of Sn, 0.002W0.4wt% of P, 0.03W0.09wt% of Zr and the balance of substantially Cu. After this alloy cast mass has been hot worked, it is cold worked and subjected to intermediate annealing respectively at least once, is cold worked to a draft of 10% or more, and is subjected to low temp. annealing at 200W300°C for 10minW10hr. If the content of Zr is lower than the lower limit, the effect for improving the properties is not adequate, and if it exceeds the upper limit, the alloy having a uniform constituent is barely obtained, the resistance to deformation becomes too high to work it, and it will be hardly softened in the intermediate softening step for a bar or wire material at a low temperature.
