Abstract

PURPOSE:To quantitatively detect a specific antibody or antigen from a slight amt. of a magnetic material-labeled specimen by controlling the motility of the specimen by magnetic force and the surface tension of the liquid and detecting the reflected laser light or interference fringes synchronized with the control. CONSTITUTION:A soln. contg., for example, the magnetic material-labeled specimen 20 (complex of the magnetic material labeling body and the specimen) after, for example, an antigen- antibody reaction is housed in an inspecting vessel 1. The magnetic fluxes generated from an electromagnet 3 focus to a magnetic pole piece 5 placed right above the vessel 1 and, therefore, the specimen 20 is concd. on the water surface right under the magnetic pole piece 5 and is strongly attracted to the piece 5, by which the water surface around the same is built up. The interference fringes corresponding to the degree of the build-up are generated in the reflected light 8 when the laser light 7 is projected on this very small build-up part 21. The quantity of the specimen 20 is known from the number of the fringes. The reflected light 8 synchronizes with excitation periods and a change in the intensity of the reflected light is caused if the electromagnet 31 is alternately excited. The influence of external disturbance and background is effectively removed if only the fluctuation component synchronized with the alternating frequencies is detected in the detection of the reflected light.
