Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to select two or more kinds of pixel density by a method wherein a second electrode, opposing to the first electrodes on which a photoconductive cell will be formed, is divided into a plurality of parts, a part of the second electrode divided by a fration of an integer is short-circuited whenever a read-out operation is connected, and the quantity of light projected on a photoconductive film located between the two electrodes is converted into a current. CONSTITUTION:The first electrode is divided into two parts, electrodes 41 and 42 are provided, a pixel is read out by dividing it into pixels 81 and 82. In order to read out an image sensor by scanning from the left successively at a high pixel density, switches 23 and 55 are turned ON, the wiring 61 to be connected to a driving circuit 26 is turned ON, and the pixel is read out by the first photoconductive cell 51. Then, with the wiring 61 in ON state, the pixel is read out by the second photoconductive cell 52 by turning a switch 55 OFF and also by turning a switch 56 to ON position by dropping to earth potential.
