Abstract
PURPOSE: To accurately measure the average flow velocity of a fluid flowing through a conduit by arranging a magnet and a plurality of electrodes in the conduit perpendicularly to the conduit and generating electric signals corresponding to the flow of the fluid flowing through a magnetic field at the positions of the electrodes. CONSTITUTION: A tubular housing 14 housing an electromagnet 16 is positioned in a cylindrical conduit 4 perpendicularly to the flow of a fluid flowing through the conduit 4 and connected to an external power source through wires 18. In addition, a plurality of electrodes 20 are arranged on the external surface of the housing 14 at the positions of concentric annular segments which are set so that the cross-sectional areas of the segments can become equal to each other. When such a constitution is used, a magnetic field is generated perpendicularly to the flowing direction of the fluid flowing through the conduit 4 from the electromagnet 16 and electric signals corresponding to the flow of the fluid are generated. The electric signals are transmitted to an amplifier and the amplifier outputs the signal corresponding to the average flow velocity of the fluid in the conduit 4. Therefore, the average flow velocity of the fluid can be measured accurately.
