Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient change in toe-in when a vehicle makes a turn so as to improve the cornering performance by configurating a device in such a way that a pair of a right and a left trailing arm which are extended longitudinally, are provided while they are swung up and down, and each of those arms is made of a material in a plate form which can be deformed laterally when it is subjected to a lateral force. CONSTITUTION:A pair of trailing arms 1 and 1 which are provided at a right and a left side of a vehicle while they are extended to the longitudinal direction, are pivoted on a body 3 at their front ends by way of brackets 2 while they are swung up and down. And each arm 1 is given high stiffness longitudinally and vertically, and is made of a material in a plate form, the stiffness value in the lateral direction of which is set to allow the plate to be deformed when the plate is subjected to a lateral force. A support 4 is installed on the rear end of each of the trailing arms 1 to support a rear wheel 5 rotatably, and a torsion beam 6 as a cross member is connected between extensions 4b and 4b of those supports 4. And the other end of a lateral rod 8 which is connected with one end of the above said beam 6 by way of a bracket 7, is supported by the body 3 by way of a bracket 9.

(Prior art) Conventionally, when an automobile turns in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 4, a lateral load, so-called lateral force, acts on the rear wheels 41.41, and the above-mentioned rear wheels 41.41 are represented by imaginary lines in the figure. As shown, there is a problem in that the toe-out occurs, resulting in poor turning performance and an unstable state where the vehicle is prone to spin.

Conventionally, in order to solve such problems, there is a rear wheel suspension system described in, for example, Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 58-93507.

In other words, a cross beam is stretched between the rear ends of a pair of suspension arms extending in the front-rear direction at the left and right positions of the vehicle, and crank-shaped intermediate portions of the cross beam are connected forward from both left and right ends of the cross beam. , the rear wheel is mounted on a shaft at the tip of each of these intermediate parts, and the length of the arm of the above-mentioned crank-shaped intermediate part is used to obtain flexural deformation in response to a lateral force, thereby obtaining a toe-in (tOe-in) change. This is a device formed in the following manner.

However, since loads are applied to the above-mentioned middle part in the vertical and front-back directions, the middle part is required to have rigidity. Therefore, there is a limit to the length of the arm due to the rigidity and other factors in the shape and dimensions of the crank-shaped intermediate portion, and there is a problem in that a sufficient toe-in change cannot be achieved.

(Objective of the Invention) This invention not only has sufficient rigidity against loads in the vertical and longitudinal directions and has no toe change, but also has the ability to obtain sufficient toe-in change due to lateral force when the vehicle turns. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rear suspension device for an automobile that can improve turning performance.

(Structure of the Invention) The present invention includes a pair of trailing arms extending in the longitudinal direction at the left and right positions of a vehicle, having a front end pivotally connected to the vehicle body and a rear end movable up and down; Connect the rear end of the trailing arm to the front part,
a pair of wheel supports that rotatably support the wheels; a cross member connected between extensions extending rearward from the wheel bearings of the wheel supports; one end supported on the vehicle body and the other end connected to the wheel support or The pair of trailing arms are plate-shaped and have high rigidity in the vertical and longitudinal directions, and the rigidity in the horizontal direction is set to a value that allows displacement in response to a predetermined load. The present invention is characterized by being an automobile rear suspension device composed of a body.

(Effects of the Invention) According to the present invention, since the above-mentioned trailing arm and wheel support have high rigidity in the vertical and longitudinal directions, there is no equivalent toe change with respect to loads in the vertical and longitudinal directions.

Moreover, while having the above-mentioned predetermined rigidity, the wheel support located between the extension part and the rear end of the trailing arm bends inward due to the lateral force (lateral load) when turning. Since it is displaced following the trailing arm, it is possible to obtain a sufficient toe-in change, which has the effect of improving turning performance.
