외부 안테나가 은폐된 수신기
예를 들면 셀룰라 무선 전화 시스템과 같은 페이징(paging) 시스템 및 무선 전화 시스템은 수년동안 널리 보급되기에 이르렀다. 이들 시스템의 성장 추세는 특히 페이저 및 포터블 셀룰라 무선 전화의 크기와 무게를 감소시키는 것에 기술이 발전됨에 따라 계속 발전되고 있다. 포터블 셀룰라 무선 전화의 많은 사용자들이 계속해서 페이저를 사용하므로, 이들 사용자들은 포터블 셀룰라 무선 전화 뿐만 아니라 페이저를 휴대하게 되었다. 포터블 셀룰라 무선 전화 및 페이저 모두를 더욱 작게 하려는 기술 경향에 따라서, 현재 두 개의 구성 요소들을 단일의 포터블 유닛으로 결합시키는 것이 가능하다. 그러나 이러한 결합은 셀룰라 무선 전화 및 페이저 모두가 개별적인 유닛이었을 때 이전에 나타나지 않았던 다른 문제를 야기시키는 것으로 밝혀지고 있다.
통상 포터블 무선 전화는 무선 전화 주파수로 무선 주파수 신호를 송/수신하기 위해 적어도 부분적으로 차례된 하우징 외부에 안테나를 갖고 있다. 통상 페이저는 페이저 주파수로 무선 주파수 신호를 수신하기 위한 안테나를 차폐되지 않은 하우징 내부에 갖고 있다. 페이저와 포터블 무선 전화를 결합시켜 단일의 유닛으로 할 때, 무선 전화 안테나와 페이저 안테나 위치가 고려되어야 한다.
일반적으로 놓이는 무선 전화 안테나의 위치는 대부분이 무선 전화 하우징 외부의 위치이다. 무선 전화 하우징의 내부 및 외부 모두에 페이저의 안테나를 위치하는 것이 고려되어야 한다. 차폐된 하우징은 페이저 안테나가 페이징 신호를 수신하지 못하게 하기 때문에, 페이저 안테나는 무선 전화 차폐된 하우징부 내부에 위치될 수 없다. 페이저 안테나는 무선 전화 하우징의 차폐되지 않은 부분 안쪽에 위치될 수 있으나, 단일 유닛의 컴팩트화로 차폐되지 않은 부분은 거의 존재하지 않는다. 더욱이, 차폐되지 않은 위치에 도달하기 위해서 페이저 안테나를 페이저 회로에서 멀어진 원거리에 위치시키게 되면 페이저 안테나의 비효용성을 낳는다. 페이저 안테나는 무선 전화 하우징의 외부에 위치될 수 있다. 그러나, 무선 전화 안테나 뿐만 아니라 페이저 안테나를 무선 전화 하우징의 외부에 위치시키게 되면 무선 전화의 외관을 변경시키게 되고 그 크기를 증가시키게 된다.
따라서, 안테나의 성능 또는 유닛의 외관과 크기를 손상시킴이 없이 페이저 안테나를 유리하게 위치시킬 필요성이 있는 것이다.
제1도는 본 발명에 따라 구성된 결합된 무선 전화/페이저 유닛(100)의 사시도를 보인 것이다. 유닛(100)은 일반적으로 앞쪽 하우징(102), 뒤쪽 하우징(104), 밧데리(106), 무선 전화 안테나(108), 키패드(110), 디스플레이(112), 수화기(114), 마이크로폰(116), 음량 조절 버튼(118 및 120), 손잡이(122), 경보기(124)를 포함한다.
유닛의 무선 전화부의 외관과 기능은 모토롤라, 인크.에서 제조되고 이로부터 구입가능한 통상적인 포터블 셀룰라 무선 전화, 모델 번호 1293A의 그것과 유사하다. 유닛의 페이저부의 기능은 모토롤라, 인크.에서 제조되고 이로부터 구입가능한 통상적인 페이저, 모델 브라보(Bravo)의 그것과 유사하다. 키패드(110), 음량 조절 버튼(118 및 120), 디스플레이(112), 경보기(124)와 같은 사용자 인터페이스는 유닛(100)의 무선 전화부와 페이저부 모두에 의해 공통으로 사용된다.
유닛(100)은 무선 전화 주파수로 무선 전화 신호를 통상적으로 송수신하기 위해서 무선 전화 안테나(108)를 사용한다. 유닛(100)은 페이저 주파수로 페이저 신호를 통상적으로 수신하기 위해서 페이저 안테나(제1도에 도시 안됨)를 사용한다.

Claims (7)

  1. 결합된 무선 전화/페이저 유닛(combination radiotelephone / pager unit)에 있어서, 무선 전화와 페이저 회로를 감싸며, 전기적으로 비전도성인 외부 표면을 갖는 하우징; 상기 전화 및 페이저 회로중의 적어도 하나를 적어도 부분적으로 커버(covering)하며, 상기 무선 전화 및 페이저 회로중의 적어도 하나에 의해 또는 그것을 향해 복사된 전자기 에너지를 흡수하기 위해 전기적으로 도전성인 전자기파 흡수 재료로 형성된 전자기 차폐부; 상기 무선 전화 회로에 결합된 무선 전화 안테나; 상기 페이저 회로에 결합되고, 상기 하우징의 상기 외부 표면 상에 실장된 페이저 안테나; 및 상기 하우징의 상기 외부 표면에 부착되고, 상기 하우징의 상기 외부 표면에 대해 위치가 고정된 커버를 구비하되, 상기 페이저 안테나는 상기 커버와 상기하우징의 상기 외부 표면 사이에 배치되어, 상기 페이저 안테나가 전자기 신호를 송신 및/또는 수신할 수 있게 하고 상기 결합된 무선 전화/페이저 유닛의 사용자가 알아보지 못하도록 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 결합된 무선 전화/페이저 유닛.
