Claims (22)
- 전기영동 디스플레이로서,
전기영동 매체, 상기 디스플레이의 시인측 (13) 을 형성하는 공통 전극 (11; 21) 및 각각이 상기 디스플레이의 화소를 정의하는 화소 전극들 (12, 12a; 22a) 의 층을 포함하고, 상기 전기영동 매체는 상기 공통 전극 (11; 21) 과 상기 화소 전극들 (12, 12a; 22a) 의 사이에 배치되고,
모두 용매 또는 용매 혼합물에 분산된 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (K), 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (Y), 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (R) 및 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (W) 을 포함하며, 그 4 개의 타입의 입자들은 서로 상이한 광학 특성들을 가져,

상기 디스플레이는,
(c) 일단 상기 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (K) 의 광학 특성이 상기 시인측 (13) 에서 디스플레이되면, 상기 공통 전극 (11; 21) 과 화소 전극 (12, 12a; 22a) 사이에 상기 공통 전극 (11; 21) 쪽으로 상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (W) 을 구동하는 극성을 갖는 낮은 전위차의 인가는, 연관된 화소가 상기 시인측 (13) 에서 상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (W) 의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하고, 상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (R) 을 상기 화소 전극 측으로 이동하게 하고; 그리고
(d) 일단 상기 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (Y) 의 광학 특성이 상기 시인측 (13) 에서 디스플레이되면, 상기 공통 전극 (11; 21) 과 화소 전극 (12, 12a; 22a) 사이에 상기 공통 전극 (11; 21) 쪽으로 상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (R) 을 구동하는 극성을 갖는 낮은 전위차의 인가는, 연관된 화소가 상기 시인측 (13) 에서 상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (R) 의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하고, 상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (W) 을 상기 화소 전극 측으로 이동하게 하는, 전기영동 디스플레이. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (R) 은 상기 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들 (K) 의 전하 레벨의 50% 미만인 전하 레벨을 갖는, 전기영동 디스플레이. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (W) 은 상기 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들 (Y) 의 전하 레벨의 75% 미만인 전하 레벨을 갖는, 전기영동 디스플레이. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 전기영동 매체는 실질적으로 대전되지 않은 중성 부력 입자들을 더 포함하는, 전기영동 디스플레이. - 제 4 항에 있어서,
상기 실질적으로 대전되지 않은 중성 부력 입자들은 대전되지 않는, 전기영동 디스플레이. - 전기영동 디스플레이에 대한 구동 방법으로서,
상기 전기영동 디스플레이는, 전기영동 매체, 상기 디스플레이의 시인측을 형성하는 공통 전극 및 각각이 상기 디스플레이의 화소를 정의하는 화소 전극들의 층을 포함하고, 상기 전기영동 매체는 상기 공통 전극과 상기 화소 전극들의 사이에 배치되고, 모두 용매 또는 용매 혼합물에 분산된 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들, 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들, 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들 및 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들을 포함하며,
상기 방법은,
(a) 상기 공통 전극과 화소 전극 사이에 높은 전위차를 인가하는 단계로서, 상기 높은 전위차는 상기 공통 전극 쪽으로 상기 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들을 구동하는 극성을 갖고, 이로써 화소가 상기 시인측에서 상기 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하는, 상기 높은 전위차를 인가하는 단계; 및
(b) 상기 공통 전극과 화소 전극 사이에 높은 전위차를 인가하는 단계로서, 상기 높은 전위차는 상기 공통 전극 쪽으로 상기 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들을 구동하는 극성을 갖고, 이로써 화소가 상기 시인측에서 상기 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하는, 상기 높은 전위차를 인가하는 단계를 포함하고,
상기 방법은,
(c) 일단 상기 높은 포지티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성이 상기 시인측에서 디스플레이되면, 상기 공통 전극과 화소 전극 사이에 낮은 전위차를 인가하는 단계로서, 상기 낮은 전위차는 상기 공통 전극 쪽으로 상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들을 구동하는 극성을 갖고, 이로써 화소가 상기 시인측에서 상기 낮은 네거티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하는, 상기 낮은 전위차를 인가하는 단계; 및
(d) 일단 상기 높은 네거티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성이 상기 시인측에서 디스플레이되면, 상기 공통 전극과 화소 전극 사이에 낮은 전위차를 인가하는 단계로서, 상기 낮은 전위차는 상기 공통 전극 쪽으로 상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들을 구동하는 극성을 갖고, 이로써 화소가 상기 시인측에서 상기 낮은 포지티브 대전 입자들의 광학 특성을 디스플레이하게 하는, 상기 낮은 전위차를 인가하는 단계를 포함하는, 전기영동 디스플레이에 대한 구동 방법. - 제 6 항에 있어서,
