Abstract

본 출원은 그 전체를 참조에 의해 본 명세서에 원용한 2014년 6월 2일에 출원한 미국 가특허출원 번호 62/006,447호의 이익을 주장한다.
본 발명의 대상은 종방향 배향(MDO) 필름 및 그것을 형성하는 조성물에 관한 것이다. 또한, 본 발명의 대상은 데코레이션 기술, 라벨, 및 접착제가 필름에 도포 또는 도포되어 있지 않은 경우뿐만 아니라, 접착제가 기재에 직접 도포되고 필름에는 간접적으로 도포되는 경우에서의 라벨링 용도에 있어서의 MDO 필름의 사용에 관한 것이다. 특히, 본 발명의 대상은 높은 레벨의 폴리에틸렌을 갖는 내부 코어층을 갖고, 또한 낮은 레벨의 폴리에틸렌을 갖는 MDO 필름의 예상치 못했던 투명성을 유지하고 내스커프성이 개선된 다층 필름에 관한 것이다. 또한, 잉크 경화 성능이 개선되고, 이러한 필름을 레이저 다이 커팅 기술을 이용한 커팅이 가능해지게 하는 이러한 필름의 표면처리의 효과가 고려된다.

또는, 필름 생성에 2중 기포 프로세스가 사용될 수 있다. 이러한 프로세스에 있어서, 배향 라인은 폴리머가 원형 다이를 통해 압출된 후 워터퀀칭(water-quenching)하여, 두꺼운 제 1 튜브를 형성한 다음 적당한 온도까지 재가열한 다음 블로잉하여 박막 필름의 주요 기포를 형성하는, 소위 "2중 기포 프로세스"로 작업한다.
비접촉 동시 배향은 개시 단계 동안 팽창된 공기에 기인한다. 이 공기에 의해 횡방향 배향과 함께 연신 닙롤과 타워 닙롤 사이의 속도차 때문에 종방향 배향이 동시에 취해지게 된다. 이 기포는 공기에 의해 냉각된 후, 플랫화되고; 엣지의 트리밍 후, 2개 웹이 2개의 릴에 권취되어 얻어진다.
2배향 장치에서 생성된 제품을 어닐링함으로써, BOPP, BOPA 및 BOPET를 포함한 열고정 필름을 얻는 것이 가능하다. 어닐링의 전체 또는 일부는 제조 프로세스의 일부로서 행하거나 또는 그 후에 나중에 행해도 좋다.
다수의 MDO 필름은 다층 필름이고, 코어층에 인접하여 위치되는 적어도 하나의 스킨층을 포함한다. 에틸렌비닐 아세테이트(EVA)가 "압착성" 및 인쇄성의 특성의 관점에서 하나 또는 2개의 층에 일반적으로 사용된다.
그러나, EVA 및 EVA계 재료의 수요 및 비용의 증가로 인하여, EVA를 가진 MDO 필름은 가격 상승이 예상된다. 더욱이, 광전지 산업과 같은 분야에서 이것에 대한 수요가 증가하는 것에 기인하여 EVA 또는 EVA 함유 필름을 입수하는 것이 곤란해질 수 있다. 이것은 EVA를 가진 MDO 필름의 선택시 또 다른 어려움을 야기한다.
따라서, MDO 필름으로 용이하게 형성될 수 있고, 저감된 EVA 함량을 갖고, 또한 EVA 함유 MDO 필름의 소망한 특성의 전부는 아니더라도 대부분을 나타내는 필름 재료에 대한 요구가 존재한다. 또한, 폴리에틸렌의 사용은 증가하고, 순응성은 높아지지만 투명성은 낮아지는 트래이드 오프를 회피하는 것이 소망된다. 스킨층에 사용시, MDO 필름에 있어서 일반적으로 폴리에틸렌의 양이 많을수록 내스커프성이 낮아진다.
종래 공지된 필름 및 그 사용에 관련된 어려움 및 문제는 본 발명의 필름, 라벨 어셈블리, 라벨링된 물품 및 관련 방법에서 해결된다.
일 양태에 있어서, 본 발명의 대상은 폴리에틸렌(PE) 호모폴리머, 알파 올레핀, PE 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 제 1 중합성 재료, 및 폴리프로필렌(PP) 호모폴리머, PP 함유 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료를 포함하는 층을 포함하는 배향 필름을 제공한다. 제 1 중합성 재료의 양은 PP 함유 재료의 양보다 많거나, 적거나 또는 같을 수 있다.

본 발명의 대상은 배향 필름, 특히 특정 코어 조성물의 코어층을 갖는 MDO 필름에 관한 것이다. MDO 필름은 일반적으로 (i) 적어도 하나의 스킨층과 (ii) 코어층을 포함한다. 본 발명의 대상의 다수의 실시형태에 있어서, MDO 필름은 2개 이상의 스킨층을 포함한다. 다수의 실시형태는 단일 코어층을 포함하지만, 본 발명의 대상은 다층 필름에 복수의 코어층을 사용하는 것을 포함한다. 또한, 실시형태들은 동일한 포뮬라 조성의 복수층을 포함할 수 있고, 또는 대안적으로 단일층 구성을 포함할 수 있다. 스킨층(들)은 본 명세서에 기재된 또는 본 기술분야에서 통상적으로 사용되는 하나 이상의 재료를 포함할 수 있다. 코어층은 폴리에틸렌(PE), 알파 올레핀, PE 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 제 1 중합성 재료와, 폴리프로필렌(PP) 호모폴리머, PP 함유 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 PP 함유 재료의 배합물을 포함한다. 또한, 대안적으로 또는 부가적으로, PP 함유 재료는 PP 터폴리머일 수도 있다. 제 1 중합성 재료의 양은 PP 함유 재료의 양보다 많거나 적거나 또는 같을 수 있다. 코어층은 상술한 바와 같은 배합물 또는 혼합물과, 필요에 따라 본 명세서에 기재된 바와 같은 하나 이상의 기타 성분을 함께 포함한다.

폴리에틸렌은 선형저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LLDPE), 저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LDPE), 극저밀도 폴리에틸렌(VLDPE)(메탈로센 PE), 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE), 및 이들의 조합에서 선택될 수 있다.
PE 코폴리머 성분은 폴리머쇄에 극성의 관능성을 갖는 다양한 관능화 폴리에틸렌의 형태일 수 있다. 이러한 PE 함유 성분의 예로는 에틸비닐 아세테이트(EVA), 에틸아크릴산(EAA), 에틸메타크릴산(EMA), 에틸렌 터폴리머, 무수 변성 에틸렌, 에틸아크릴레이트(EA), 카르복실기 및 금속이온과 공중합된 에틸렌(설린(Surlyn)), 및 산 또는 아크릴레이트 개질제를 가진 에틸비닐 아세테이트를 들 수 있지만, 이들에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 또한, PE 함유 성분들의 조합도 사용될 수 있다.
폴리프로필렌은 거의 모든 적합한 PP 호모폴리머일 수 잇다.
PP 함유 성분은 폴리프로필렌과 또 다른 모노머 또는 모노머의 조합의 코폴리머 또는 터폴리머의 형태일 수 있다. 또한, 헤테로상의 폴리프로필렌 또는 임팩트 코폴리머를 가리킬 수도 있다. 이들 임팩트 코폴리머는 에틸렌 성분을 1%~30% 또는 5%~25% 또는 10%~18%의 범위로 가질 수 있다. 이러한 폴리프로필렌은 지글러 나타 및 메탈로센 촉매에 의해 촉매화될 수 있다.

PP 함유 성분은 무수 말레산과 같은 하나 이상의 관능화 극성기를 갖는 PP의 형태일 수 있다. 또한, PP 함유 성분은 PP의 터폴리머 형태일 수 있다. 또한, PP 함유 성분의 조합도 사용될 수 있다.
알파 폴리올레핀 성분에 있어서, 이것은 부텐, 헥산 또는 옥텐의 코폴리머를 수득하는 촉매를 사용하는 폴리프로필렌 및 폴리에틸렌의 기술을 가리킨다. 폴리에틸렌 타입의 예는 Dow Chemical Affinity EG 8200, Exxon Mobil Exact 4049, Exxon Mobil Exceed 3515CB, Nova Chemicals FPs-417-A, 및 Mitsui Chemicals Tafmer A 및 P 시리즈의 제품일 수 있다. 폴리프로필렌 타입으로는 Mitsui Chemicals Tafmer XM 시리즈 및 LyondellBasell DP8220M을 예시할 수 있다. 또한, 에틸렌과 알파 올레핀의 코폴리머 및 알파 올레핀을 갖는 프로필렌의 코폴리머가 있다. 또한, 필름 또는 코어 조성물은 폴리에틸렌(PE) 및/또는 알파올레핀, 및 PE-코폴리머 중 적어도 하나와, 폴리프로필렌(PP) 및 PP 함유 코폴리머 중 적어도 하나의 배합물 이외에 추가 성분을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들면, 필름 또는 코어 조성물은 스티렌계 성분, 나일론, 조핵제, 및 다수의 필러 및 본 명세서에서 더욱 상사하게 기재되는 기타 에이전트도 더 포함할 수 있다.
다수의 실시형태에 있어서, 코어층에 있어서 PE 및/또는 PE 함유 성분의 양은 PP 및/또는 PP 함유 성분의 양보다 많거나 적다. 본 발명의 대상의 특정 버젼에 있어서, 코어층은 적어도 9%의 PE 및/또는 PE 함유 성분 및 약 89% 이하의 PE 및/또는 PE 함유 성분을 함유한다. 소정 실시형태에 있어서, 코어층은 약 25%의 PE 및/또는 PE 함유 성분을 함유한다. 본 명세서의 양에 대한 모든 기준은 별도의 언급이 없는 한 중량이다. 또한, 본 명세서의 백분율에 대한 모든 기준은 별도의 언급이 없는 한 중량%이다.
복수의 스킨층 및 적어도 하나의 코어층을 갖는 다층 필름의 소정 실시형태에 있어서, 스킨은 코어(단층)와 구성적으로 일치하거나, 또는 스킨은 코어(다층)와 구성적으로 다를 수 있다.
소정 실시형태에 있어서, 하나 이상의 스킨층은 폴리프로필렌(PP), 에틸렌비닐 아세테이트(EVA), 선형저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LLDPE), 선형저밀도 폴리프로필렌(LLDPP), 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE), 고밀도 폴리프로필렌(HDPP), 스티렌 디블록 코폴리머, DuPont으로부터 SURLYN®의 상품명으로 입수가능한 것과 같은 각종 이오노머 수지, 선형저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LLDPE), 극저밀도 폴리에틸렌(VLDPE), 에틸렌 아크릴산(EAA) 코폴리머, 알파 올레핀, 및 그 조합을 포함한다.
본 발명의 대상의 다층 필름의 다수의 실시형태에 있어서, 코어층의 중량 비율은 스킨층의 중량 비율보다 크고, 또는 다수의 스킨층이 사용되는 경우에는 스킨층의 전체 중량 비율보다 크다. 상기 중량 비율은 다층 필름의 전체 중량 기준이다. 예를 들면, 소정 실시형태에 있어서, 코어층의 중량 비율은 다층 필름의 중량의 60%~90%이다. 또한, 하나 이상의 스킨층, 예를 들면 2개의 스킨층의 중량 비율이 다층 필름의 중량의 10%~40%이다. 특정 실시형태에 있어서, 코어층의 중량 비율은 약 70%이고, 스킨층(들)의 중량 비율은 약 30%이다.
코어 중의 PE 함량이 현재 이용가능한 MDO 필름보다 많은 다층 필름의 특정 실시형태(일부는 15%, 그외는 30% 사용함)에 있어서, 본 발명의 대상의 필름은 코어 중에 80% PE를 사용하지 않고 더욱 우수한 결과를 달성할 수 있다. 따라서, 특정 실시형태에 있어서, 코어 중의 PE 함량은 약 30%~80%이고, 소정 버젼에서는 35%~75%이다.
코어 조성물은 밴드버리 밀(Bandbury Mill), 압출기 등과 같은 종래의 장치에서 용융 배합함으로써 균일한 혼합물로 결합될 수 있는 2개의 성분, 즉 (a) PE 및/또는 PE 함유 성분과 (b) PP 및/또는 PP 함유 성분의 배합물을 포함한다. 또는 상기 배합물은 상기 2개의 성분을 용액 배합 또는 건식 혼합에 의해 제조된 후, 그 건식 혼합물을 압출에 의해 용융 가공될 수 있다.
본 발명의 대상인 필름의 코어 조성물 및 스킨 조성물은 각각의 조성물의 특성을 개질하기 위해 기타 첨가제를 함유해도 좋다. 예를 들면, 상기 조성물에 TiO2, CaCO3, 탤크, 실리카, 마이카 등과 같은 착색제 및 미네랄 필러가 포함될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 소량의 TiO2가 존재함으로써 불투명 또는 백색 조성물이 얻어진다. 상기 조성물에는 미네랄 필러가 포함될 수 있다. 일반적으로, 기타 첨가제의 양은 약 1중량%~약 40중량%, 대개는 약 1중량%~약 20중량%의 범위이다. 유기 필러가 고려된다. 본 발명의 대상의 조성물에 포함될 수 있는 기타 첨가제로는 조핵제, 정화제, 형광 발광제, 금속 입자, 파이버, 난연제, 산화방지제, 열안정제, 광 안정제, 자외선 안정제, 블록킹 방지제, 가공 조제 등을 들 수 있다.
본 발명의 대상의 필름의 일부의 2개 이상의 접촉층은 함께 달라붙거나 또는 "블록킹"(필름이 롤에 권취되었을 때)되는 경향을 가질 수 있기 때문에, 블록킹 방지제를 조성물에 첨가해도 좋다. 블록킹 방지제는 일반적으로 필름 층 간의 밀접한 접촉을 저감함으로써 "달라붙음"을 저감시키는 무기 미네랄 필러이다. 본 발명의 대상의 조성물에 포함될 수 있는 블록킹 방지제로는 규조토, 탤크, 탄산칼슘, 가교 PMMA, 실리카 및 합성 실리카와 같은 무기 필러를 들 수 있다. 가교 PMMA 및 합성 실리카는 2개의 가장 일반적으로 사용되는 블록킹 방지제이다.
본 발명의 대상의 일부 실시형태에 있어서, 상기 코어 조성물은 하나 이상의 상용화제를 함유해도 좋다. 일 실시형태에 있어서, 상용화제는 극성 반응물과 공중합되거나 그래프트된 폴리올레핀을 포함해도 좋다. 예를 들면, 상기 상용화제는 아크릴산 변성 폴리프로필렌 그래프트 코폴리머(예를 들면, Polybond® 1003, BP chemicals) 또는 말레에이트된 폴리프로필렌 그래프트 코폴리머(예를 들면, BP Chemicals 제작의 Polybond® 3001)이어도 좋다. 일반적으로, 이들 상용화제는 카르복실화 또는 말레에이트된 폴리올레핀으로 언급되어도 좋다.
본 발명의 대상의 조성물은 열가소성 조성물이고, 압출, 블로우 몰딩, 및 몰드된 부품, 압출된 형상, 튜빙, 필름, 시트, 라미네이트 등의 다양한 물품의 제조에 적합하다. 폼은 발포제 및 미립자 조핵제 등의 널리 공지된 다른 첨가제를 포함함으로써 본 발명의 대상의 조성물로부터 제조된 후에 상기 조성물을 압출시킨다.
본 발명의 대상의 조성물은 특히 라벨 용도에 바람직한 특성을 갖는 연속 필름의 제조에 특히 유용하다. 상기 필름은 당업자에게 공지된 압출 기술에 의해 제조되고, 상기 필름은 약 0.5~약 5, 7 또는 10mil 두께의 범위이어도 좋다. 대개, 상기 필름은 약 1.2~약 4mil, 가장 일반적으로는 약 2.0~약 3.5mil의 두께를 가질 것이다.
다수의 실시형태에 있어서, 상기 조성물로부터 제조된 필름은 종방향으로 배향되는 것이 바람직하다. 예를 들면, 상기 필름은 적어도 2:1의 비율로 종방향으로 고온 연신되어도 좋다. 대개, 상기 필름은 2:1과 9:1 사이의 연신 비율로 고온 연신될 수 있다. 연신은 블로운, 캐스트, 또는 텐터 프로세스 등의 당업계에 공지된 다수의 기술에 의해 행해도 좋다. 상기 필름이 고온 연신된 후에, 일반적으로 어닐링 롤을 거쳐서 약 50℃, 대개 100℃~약 150℃ 범위의 온도에서 어닐링 또는 열고정시킨 후에 냉각시킨다. 이러한 배향은 상기 필름의 스티프니스의 증가 및 경우에 따라 개선된 인쇄 적성 등의 개선된 특성을 갖는 필름을 제공한다. 임의의 이론에 의해 행하는 것을 원하지는 않지만, 연신은 표면 폴리머 분포 및 유효 표면적을 변화시켜 인쇄 적성을 향상시키는 것을 야기한다고 생각된다. 연신 온도도 인쇄 적성에 영향을 준다고 생각된다. 낮은 연신 온도는 일반적으로 향상된 인쇄 적성을 갖는 필름을 제조한다. 상기 필름의 종방향 인장 모듈러스도 연신에 의해 증가되어 치수 안정성 및 양호한 인쇄 레지스트레이션에 기여한다. 특정 실시형태에 있어서, 종방향으로의 배향은 상기 필름의 다이 커팅성 및 상기 필름으로부터 형성된 라벨의 분배성을 향상시킨다. 일부 실시형태에 있어서, 마모 또는 내스커프성도 개선시킨다. 본 명세서에서 보다 상세하게 설명하는 바와 같이, 본 발명의 대상의 MDO 필름은 우수한 인쇄 적성 및 압착성을 나타낸다. 인쇄 적성은 전형적으로 필름 표면에 얼마나 많은 양의 잉크가 부착되어 있는지에 따라 측정된다. 업계에 알려진 바와 같이, 특정 샴푸 또는 화장품 용기 등의 압착 용기에서 사용할 수 있는 특성을 갖는 라벨은 통상 "압착 라벨"이라고 한다. 일반적으로, 압착 라벨의 인디케이터는 상기 라벨의 순응성이다. 라벨 압착성은 상기 필름의 모듈러스로 정량화될 수 있다. 일반적으로, 상기 필름의 모듈러스가 낮을수록 상기 필름의 압착성은 커진다. 특정 실시형태에 있어서, 본 발명의 대상의 필름은 우수한 내스크래치성도 나타낸다. 내스크래치성은 당업계에 공지된 서덜랜드 러브 테스트(sutherland rub test), 및 경도 테스트에 의해 정량화될 수 있다. 일반적으로, 필름이 단단할수록 필름의 내스크래치성은 증가한다. 본 발명의 대상의 필름의 이들 및 다른 특성 및 특성은 본 명세서에서 보다 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명의 대상의 다수의 실시형태에 있어서 필름은 하나 이상의 방향으로 배향되지만, 다른 실시형태에 있어서의 필름은 배향되지 않을 수도 있음을 이해해야 될 것이다.

기능성 필름 또는 층은 대상의 다층 구조에 포함되어 인쇄 적성, 압착성, 다이 커팅성, 내후성, 스티프니스, 내마모성 등의 추가 및/또는 개선된 특성을 상기 필름에 제공할 수 있다. 예를 들면, 투명한 코팅 또는 필름은 인접한 물체와의 물리적 접촉에 의해 야기된 손상, 및 습기, 물 또는 날씨에 대한 노출에 의해 야기된 손상으로부터 인쇄물을 보호하기 위해서 상기 필름 상에 인쇄 표시에 압축되거나 또는 라미네이트될 수 있다. 또한, 상기 투명한 코팅은 윤이나고 풍부한 이미지를 제공하기 위해서 하층에 있는 인쇄 표시의 광학적 품질을 향상시킬 수 있다. 기능성 필름도 기재에 대한 필름의 접착력을 향상시키기 위해서 포함될 수 있다.
상기 추가된 기능성 필름은 일반적으로 상기 코어 필름의 두께와 비교하여 얇지만, 보다 두꺼운 기능성 층은 일부 용도에도 유용하다. 상기 기능성 필름은 특히 상기 코어 필름보다 얇은 경우에는 스킨층이라고 한다. 또는, 본 발명의 대상의 필름은 보다 두꺼운 베이스 필름(다층 필름이어도 좋음) 위의 스킨층으로서 사용될 수 있다. 상기 스킨층은 베이스 필름과 공압출되거나 프리폼된 베이스 필름 상에 적층될 수 있다.
광범위한 열가소성 폴리머는 기능성 필름을 형성하는데 이용될 수 있고, 선택된 특정 열가소성 폴리머는 상기 구조에 소망의 특성을 제공할 수 있다. 유용한 재료의 예는 폴리스티렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리아미드, 폴리에스테르, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리우레탄, 폴리아크릴레이트, 폴리비닐알콜, 폴리(에틸렌비닐알콜), 폴리비닐아세테이트, 이오노머 및 이들 혼합물을 포함한다. 에틸렌비닐아세테이트 코폴리머는 인쇄 가능한 커버층에 특히 유용하다.
본 발명의 대상의 조성물로부터 제조될 수 있는 필름은 특히 페이스트 스톡 및 후속적으로 접착성 라벨의 제조에 사용하기 위한 라벨스톡에 유용하다. 라벨스톡은 일반적으로 상기 필름의 페이스 스톡(단층 또는 다층이어도 좋음) 및 접착제 층을 포함한다. 상기 접착제 층은 일반적으로 본 발명의 대상의 필름의 한 표면에 접촉하여 접착적으로 결합된다.
본 발명의 대상의 라벨스톡에 이용되는 접착제 층은 나타내는 층의 하부 표면 상에 직접 코팅되어도 좋고, 또는 상기 접착제는 페이스 스톡이 결합되는 라이너로부터 이송될 수 있다. 전형적으로, 상기 접착제 층은 약 0.4~약 1.6mil(10~약 40마이크론)의 두께를 갖는다. 본 발명의 대상의 라벨스톡에 사용하는데 적합한 접착제는 기술분야에서 통상적으로 이용 가능하다. 일반적으로, 이들 접착제는 감압 접착제, 열 활성화 접착제, 핫 멜트 접착제 등을 포함합니다. 감압 접착제(PSA)가 특히 유용하다. 이들은 아크릴계 접착제뿐만 아니라, 천연 고무 또는 스티렌, 부타디엔, 아크릴로니트릴, 이소프렌 및 이소부티렌의 폴리머 또는 코폴리머를 함유하는 합성 고무 등의 다른 엘라스토머를 포함한다. 또한 다른 스킨층은 잉크로 직접 라벨스톡 상에 인쇄되어도 좋고, 또는 프라이머 또는 탑코트는 상기 라벨스톡에 도포되어도, 탑코트 상에 잉크 인쇄되어도 좋다. 이 인쇄 또는 탑코트 층은 접착제 스킨층에 대한 조성물과 같거나 다를 수 있다. 예시적인 탑코트는 폴리우레탄, 아크릴 또는 폴리에스테르계이어도 좋다. 또는, 상기 접착제 또는 스킨층은 코로나 처리 또는 화염 처리되어도 좋다. 선택적으로 또는 부가적으로, 상기 스킨층은 진공 금속화 프로세스를 통하여 금속화되어도 좋다.
상술한 바와 같이, 본 명세서에 기재된 필름 및 페이스 스톡의 특성은 본 발명의 대상의 필름 위에 필름층을 라미네이팅함으로써 일부 개선될 수 있다. 오버라미네이트층은 접착제 구조물에 대한 스티프니스 및 내후성 등의 추가 특성을 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 오버라미네이트층은 인접한 대상과의 물리적 접촉에 의해 야기되는 손상, 및 습기, 물 또는 날씨에 대한 노출에 의해 야기되는 손상으로부터 상기 인쇄물을 보호하기 위해서 인쇄 표시 위에 투명한 코팅 또는 필름을 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 투명한 코팅은 윤이나고 풍부한 이미지를 제공하기 위해서 하층에 있는 인쇄 표시의 광학적 품질을 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 발명의 대상의 오버라미네트된 구조물은 라벨 리프팅 또는 헤이징 등의 불리한 결과를 나타내지 않고 보틀 세정/린싱, 충진 및 저온 살균, 또는 액침(예를 들면, 아이스배스) 등의 후속 액체 프로세싱을 받는 기재 상의 라벨로서 사용하는데 유일하게 적합하다.
상기 오버라미네이트된 필름층은 상기 접착제 구조물의 연속 폴리머 필름과 상기 오버라미네이트 필름층 사이에 개재된 접착제 재료의 층을 갖는 연속 필름의 형태인 경우에 압력에 의해 본 발명의 대상의 필름에 라미네이트될 수 있다. 상기 오버라미네이트된 필름층은 필름 또는 오버라미네이트 필름 중 어느 하나가 열 활성화될 때에 라미네이션을 위해서 자체적으로 접착제 표면을 형성하는 재료로부터 형성되는 경우에 열 및 압력에 의해 상기 필름에 라미네이트될 수 있다. 인쇄 표시는 폴리프로필렌 필름 표면 및/또는 오버라미네이트 필름층의 배면의 표면 상에 배치될 수 있다.

실시예
본 발명의 대상에 따라 다양한 다층 필름을 제조했다. 각각의 다층 필름은 2개의 스킨층 사이에 배치된 단일 코어층을 포함한다. 일부 실시예에 있어서 상기 스킨층은 동일한 조성을 가지는 반면에, 다른 실시예에 있어서 상기 스킨층은 다른 조성을 갖는다. 상기 코어의 중량 비율은 70%이고, 각각의 스킨층의 중량 비율은 15%이다. 표 1은 스킨-코어-스킨 배열을 갖는 다층 필름 및 각각의 층의 조성을 요약한다.

라벨링된 병을 포함하는 라벨링된 물품이 HDPE로 라이닝된 금속 레일 또는 금속 레일을 갖는 고속 라인 상에 운반되는 것을 고려하면, 향상된 내스커프성이 바람직하다. 상기 라벨링된 물품에 의해 접하는 벽의 마찰은 라벨링된 물품에서는 심미적으로 불쾌하고 바람직하지 않은 스크래치 또는 스커프 자국을 포함하는 표면 결함을 야기할 수 있다. 특정 용도에 있어서, 헤이즈가 낮은 투명한 라벨은 심미적 이유, 예를 들면 라벨이 보틀에 부착되었을 때에 사람의 눈에 의해 시각적으로 감지하기 어려운 "라벨이 없는 외관"으로 바람직할 수 있다. 과거에는 일정 레벨의 헤이즈를 갖는 HDPE 및 LDPE 용기가 사용되었다. 현재에는 PET 보틀을 선호하는 경향이 있음으로, 투명한 라벨이 "라벨이 없는 외관"과 동일하게 도달하도록 요구될 수 있다. 이하의 표는 서덜랜드 러브 테스트로부터 얻어진 스크래칭 결과와 비교할 수 있는 몇가지 필름을 나타내고, 스크래치의 수는 내스크래치성에 반비례한다.

상기 데이터로부터, 실시예 8 및 9의 필름이 이전의 MDO 필름(즉, -Global Coex(GCX), Global MDO, Fasclear 250)과 비교하여 상대적으로 높은 레벨의 내스커프성 및 상대적으로 낮은 레벨의 헤이즈를 달성한다는 것을 알았다. 또한, 실시예 8 및 9의 필름은 블로우된 PE 필름(Avery PE 85)보다 내스커프성 및 내스크래치성에서 더욱 바람직한 조합인 것을 나타냈다. 실시예 8 및 9는 (GCX 및 Global MDO)과 비교하여 높은 레벨의 폴리에틸렌을 사용하지만, 여전히 증가된 내스커프성을 나타냈다. 이전의 실험에서는 폴리에틸렌 레벨과 내스커프성 사이에서 반비례를 나타냈으므로; 실시예 8 및 9의 성능은 예상하지 못한 결과이다.
상기 필름의 다른 양태는 MD 스티프니스 대 CD 스티프니스비에 관한 것이다. 통상적으로, MDO 필름은 한 방향(종방향)으로 연신되어 높은 MD 스티프니스 및 낮은 CD 스티프니스를 갖는 필름을 야기한다. CD에서 연신되지 않으면, 통상적으로 CD 스티프니스에 대한 어웃풋으로서 얻어진 값으로 제한된다. 실시예 8 및 9를 포함하는 새로운 제형에 있어서, 상기 CD 스티프니스는 상기 필름의 조성을 변경함으로써 조작할 수 있다. 이러한 제형은 CD에 있어서의 필름을 연신시키기 위한 기계적인 수단을 사용하지 않고 MDO 필름에 보다 균형 잡힌 특성을 갖는 필름을 가능하게 한다. 따라서, CD에 있어서 아직 "폴딩"되지 않은 순응 가능한 라벨을 제조할 수 있어; 한 번 더 예상하지 못한 결과이다. 1.0의 MD/CD 스티프니스비는 이상적으로 균형 잡힌 시트를 나타낸다. 더 좋은 재활용성, 배리어성, 증기 멸균, 내구성 라벨, 의약품, 혈액백, 신선한 보틀 라벨링 및 튜브 용도뿐만 아니라, 금속성 잉크로 금속화 또는 인쇄에 기인한 개선된 심미적을 가능하게 하기 위해서, 이들 새로운 제형은 이상성에 접근하고 MDO 필름의 스티프니스, 순응성 및 선명도 사이의 고유한 트레이드오프의 특유의 문제를 해결하고, 향상된 데코레이션 기술의 교환성, 건강 및 개인 위생 애플리케이션에 사용을 포함하는 바람직한 최종 사용 이점을 얻을 수 있다. 표 3에 나타내는 바와 같이, 개시된 라벨에 대한 CD 스티프니스에 대한 MD 스티프니스의 비율은 1.2~1.9의 범위일 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 비율은 1.24~1.89의 범위일 수 있다.

라벨의 또 다른 물리적 속성은, 라벨 주름 및 다트 및 기타 이러한 결함이 형성되기 전에 사용자가 보틀에 적용할 수 있는 "압착"의 양을 나타내는 순응성이라고 칭해진다. 보틀에 적용시, 보다 순응 가능한 필름은 보틀이 라벨링되어 내용물에 적용될 때에 접착제 젖음, 보틀 이동 및 기타 실제 생활 현상에 기인하는 결함을 더 적게 허용한다(상기 보틀을 확장시켜 비어있는 보틀 안에 재료가 들어가거나/재료를 채우고 그 후에 비움).

라벨 변환 기술이 계속 진화함에 따라, 금속 앤빌 및 매그 다이 커팅의 종래의 방법에 추가하여, 라벨을 변환하는 추가 방법은 변환을 위해서 레이저를 사용한다. 라벨 변환에 사용되는 전형적인 레이저는 다른 파장도 사용될 수 있지만 10.2 및 10.6㎛의 파장(근적외선 파장)에서 작동한다. 이들 파장의 레이저는 BOPP(투명 및 백색 모두), PE(투명 및 백색 모두), 종이, PET(투명 및 백색 모두) 및 MDO 필름(투명 및 백색 모두) 등의 하나 이상의 재료를 포함하는 층을 갖는 라벨을 커팅하는데 사용될 수 있다. 흥미로운 것은, 각각의 이들 재료(및/또는 그 안에 함유된 첨가제)는 이전에 기재된 종래의 레이저에 의해 방출된 파장에서 광을 흡수한다는 것이다. 일반적으로, 상기 백색 필름 및 종이는 적절하게 다이 커팅되고, 즉 이러한 재료는 10.2 및 10.6㎛의 파장 중 적어도 하나의 광을 흡수하여 매트릭스로부터 라벨 커팅을 야기하고; 본 출원의 목적을 위해서, 이러한 재료는 "레이저 다이 커팅 가능"으로 언급된다. 그러나, PE 필름은 현재 레이저 다이 커팅이 잘되지 않아, 순응 가능한 필름을 갖고 레이저 광을 흡수할 수 있는 능력을 제공하는 다이 커팅되도록 원하는 사람들을 위해서 라벨 업계에 문제를 제기한다. 하나는 1) 낮은 융점 및 2) 레이저가 상기 재료에 흡수될 수 있는 구조의 기준에 적합한 필름 상에서 잘 다이 커팅되기 위해서 레이저를 당연히 예상할 수 있다. MDO 필름의 레이저 다이 커팅과 관련하여, Avery Dennison 제작의 시판의 Fasclear 필름은 레이저 다이 커팅을 위해서 예상되는 기준에 적합하지만, 이들 필름은 광학적으로 투명하지 않아 라벨의 선택을 더욱 제한한다.
당업자가 예측했던 것과는 반대로, 순응 가능한 투명한 MDO 라벨은 레이저 다이 커팅될 수 있다는 것을 발견했다. 이러한 성능은 폴리머의 융점이 실제로 레이저로 절단 가능하다고 미리 입증된 것보다 높고 재료가 상기 레이저 상의 흡수 밴드에 있지 않기 때문이라고 예측할 수 없다.

대상의 향상된 내구성 및 레이저 커팅성에 추가하여, 필름은 개시된 필름에 대한 잉크 접착 및 잉크 경화 시간에 대해서 향상되었다. 잉크가 필름 기판에서 경화되는 속도는 품질을 결정하고(빠를수록 좋음) 프레스 시간을 결정한다. 다시 말하면, 특정 기판(예를 들면, 라벨)에서 잉크 경화가 빠를수록, 프레스가 빨리 작동함으로써 인쇄 자산의 효율성 및 생산성을 높일 수 있다. 다수의 경우에, 변환기는 잉크 접착 성능과 프레스 속도 사이에 반비례 관계가 있기 때문에 잉크 접착 성능과 프레스 속도 사이의 균형을 유지해야 한다. 잉크 접착력과 프레스 속도 사이의 트레이드오프를 피하는 수단으로서, 본질적으로 인쇄 가능한 필름(즉, 코팅이 없는 필름, 탑코트 또는 인쇄용 프라이머)이 개발되었고; 또는, 인쇄 프라이머 또는 탑코트가 인쇄되는 상기 라벨스톡의 표면 상에 증착될 수 있다. 물론, 탑코트 또는 프라이머의 증착은 잉크 접착 성능을 증가시키지만, 이 재료를 라벨스톡에 추가하는 것은 라벨 구성의 비용도 증가시킨다. 계속 증가하는 식품 접촉 규제, 지속 가능성에 대한 산업적 추진 및 비용상의 관점에서, 탑 코팅하는 라벨스톡에 기인하는 추가 비용 및 추가 시간 없이 향상된 잉크 접착 성능을 얻는 것이 바람직하다.
본 기술분야에서, 처리가 코로나 처리, 플라즈마 처리 또는 화염 처리이거나 또는 화염 플라즈마 처리이든 간에, 수지 포뮬라와 표면 처리의 조합이 소망의 인쇄/잉크 접착 결과를 달성할 수 있음을 알았다. 일례로, 상기 필름은 40:60~60:40 의 산소에 대한 연료의 비를 사용하여 1800~2500btu/in로 화염 또는 화염 플라즈마 처리되어도 좋다. 기술로서, 표면 처리는 라벨스톡의 표면의 다인 레벨의 증가를 야기하고, 그 결과 상응하여 잉크 접착력이 증가한다. 그러나, 인쇄 테스팅을 통하여 예상하지 못하고 발견한 것은 잉크의 경화 속도가 증가된다는 것이다. 이 예상치 못한 결과에 있어서, 이점은 프린터 변환기가 더 빨리 작동하여 향상된 표면 처리의 적용에 의해 동일한 잉크 접착력을 얻을 수 있다는 이점이다. 이러한 경화 속도의 증가로 인쇄 자산을 더 빠른 속도로 실행시킬 수 있음으로써, 생산성 및 효율성이 증가한 결과 단위 면적당 비용을 감소시켰다.
표 6의 데이터는 표준 플린트 4 컬러 프로세스 잉크세트(CMYK)를 실행하는 Mark Andy 4150 프린팅 프레스에서의 테스트에 따라 취했다. 상기 코로나 처리 후 제어 필름(Avery Fasclear)은 잉크가 부족하기 시작할 때까지 최대 325fpm까지 작동할 수 있는 반면에, 500fpm에서는 화염 처리 후 동일한 필름 형성에 실패했다. 대조적으로, 실시예 8 및 실시예 9 모두는 325fpm의 프레스 속도로 코로나 처리 및 500fpm에서의 화염 처리 둘 모두 후에 100% 잉크 접착을 달성했다.

코로나 처리할 수 있는 필름을 제조하기 위해서, 화염 또는 화염 플라즈마 처리할 수 있는 필름을 형성하는 것과 비교하여 다수의 기능성 폴리머를 사용할 필요가 있다. 코로나 처리할 수 있는 필름을 제공하는 기능성 폴리머는 전반적으로 부드러움으로써, 화염 또는 화염 플라즈마 처리로 제형화된 필름과 비교하여 보다 적은 내스커프성 필름을 야기하고, 후속의 코로나 처리를 위해서 제조된 필름보다 비교적 단단하고 더 높은 내스커프성을 야기한다.
본 발명의 대상의 필름 및 다층 어셈블리는 다수의 산업분야에서 광범위하게 적용되고 사용될 것으로 예상된다. 상기 필름의 주된 용도는 필름성 라벨 또는 라벨링 및 포장 재료용 데코레이션 매체이다.
도시된 다층 필름 및 라벨 어셈블리 모두는 추가 층 또는 재료를 포함할 수 있음을 알았다. 본 발명의 대상은 설명되는 특정 실시형태로 한정되지 않는다.
다수의 다른 이점들은 이 기술의 향후 적용 및 개발로 인해 명백해질 것이다.

Claims (44)

  1. 코어층 및 적어도 하나의 스킨층을 포함하는 다층 필름으로서,
    상기 코어층은,
    (i) 폴리에틸렌(PE) 호모폴리머, 알파 폴리올레핀, PE 함유 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 제 1 중합성 재료; 및
    (ii) 폴리프로필렌(PP) 호모폴리머, PP 함유 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 적어도 하나의 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료를 포함하고,
    상기 코어층의 조성은 적어도 하나의 스킨층의 조성과 동일하며,
    상기 필름의 횡방향에 대한 종방향의 스티프니스의 비율은 0.87:1~1.9:1이고,
    상기 필름은 2:1~9:1의 범위 내의 연신율로 가열 연신에 의해 오로지 종방향으로만 배향되는 다층 필름.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 중합성 재료는 선형 저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LLDPE), 저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LDPE), 극저밀도 폴리에틸렌(VLDPE), 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE), 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 PE인 다층 필름.
  3. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 중합성 재료는 폴리머쇄 중에 극성의 관능성을 갖는 적어도 하나의 관능화 폴리에틸렌을 포함하는 PE인 다층 필름.
  4. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 필름은 알파 폴리올레핀을 함유하는 다층 필름.
  5. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료는 PP 호모폴리머인 다층 필름.
  6. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료는 (i) 에틸렌 함량이 낮은 PP와 PE의 코폴리머, (ii) 에틸렌 함량이 높은 PP와 PE의 코폴리머, (iii) 하나 이상의 다른 모노머와 PP의 블럭 코폴리머, (iv) 하나 이상의 관능화 극성기를 갖는 PP, (v) PP의 터폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 다층 필름.
  7. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 필름은 제 1 스킨층과 제 2 스킨층 사이에 배치된 코어층을 포함하는 다층 필름.
  8. 제 7 항에 있어서,
    상기 코어층의 조성은 상기 제 1 스킨층과 상기 제 2 스킨층 중 적어도 하나의 조성과 동일하거나,
    상기 코어층의 조성은 상기 제 1 스킨층의 조성과 다르거나,
    상기 코어층의 조성은 상기 제 2 스킨층의 조성과 다른 다층 필름.
  9. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    제 1 중합성 재료와 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료를 포함하는 코어층의 PE 함량은 25%~95%, 또는 30%~80%, 또는 35%~75%인 다층 필름.
  10. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    제 1 중합성 재료와 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료를 포함하는 코어층은 에틸렌비닐아세테이트(EVA) 및 EVA계 성분 중 적어도 하나를 더 포함하는 다층 필름.
  11. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 스킨층은 폴리프로필렌(PP), 에틸렌비닐아세테이트(EVA), 선형저밀도 폴리에틸렌(LLDPE), 선형저밀도 폴리프로필렌(LLDPP), 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE), 고밀도 폴리프로필렌(HDPP), 스티렌 디블록 코폴리머, 이오노머 수지, 극저밀도 폴리에틸렌(VLDPE), 에틸렌아크릴산(EAA) 코폴리머, 및 그 조합으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택되는 적어도 하나의 성분을 포함하는 다층 필름.
  12. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 필름은 레이저 다이 절삭가능한 다층 필름.
  13. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 필름은 화염 처리된 다층 필름.
  14. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 기재된 다층 필름; 및
    접착제의 층을 포함하고,
    상기 접착제는 감압 접착제인 라벨 어셈블리.
  15. 제 14 항에 있어서,
    상기 라벨 어셈블리는 레이저 다이 절삭가능한 라벨 어셈블리.
  16. 제 14 항에 있어서,
    상기 라벨 어셈블리는 화염 처리된 라벨 어셈블리.
  17. 제 14 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 중합성 재료의 양은 상기 폴리프로필렌(PP) 함유 재료의 양보다 많은 라벨 어셈블리.
  18. 라벨을 수용하기 위한 표면을 갖는 물품을 제공하는 단계;
    제 14 항에 기재된 라벨 어셈블리를 제공하는 단계;
    상기 라벨 어셈블리의 접착제의 층을 상기 물품의 표면에 부착하여, 라벨링된 물품을 제조하는 단계를 포함하는 라벨링된 물품의 제조방법.
