Abstract

본 발명은 사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스의 송수신 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로서, VOD(Video On-Demand) 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 VOD 서버는, 클라이언트에게 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 제공하고, 클라이언트가 요청한 특정 유형의 광고를 선택적으로 제공하는 서비스 제어부; 및 멀티미디어 컨텐츠, 광고 컨텐츠 및 클라이언트 정보를 저장하는 데이터 저장부를 포함함을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의하면, 광정보저장매체내 정보를 여러 종류의 화면 종횡비에 맞도록 구성함으로써 다른 크기의 화면으로의 변화가 있을시에도 인터랙티브 정보의 크기와 위치의 왜곡없는 표시가 가능하다.

Description

사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 ＶＯＤ 스트리밍 서비스의 송수신 장치 및 그 방법{Method and apparatus for sending/receiving VOD streaming service providing user-favored advertisement}
본 발명은 VOD 스트리밍 서비스에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 중 삽입된 광고를 사용자가 선택하도록 하는 장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다.
지금까지 VOD 스트리밍 서비스는 기술적으로 많은 발전을 이뤄왔다. 그러나, 기술의 발전에 비해 VOD 스트리밍 서비스에 대한 비즈니즈 모델의 부재로 사업화는 아직 초보적 단계에 있을 뿐이다.
VOD 스트리밍 서비스와 관련한 종래 기술 가운데 하나로서, 인터넷 컨텐츠 서비스 제공 사이트에서 이용자에게 컨텐츠 서비스를 제공시 광고 컨텐츠를 먼저 제공한 후 실제 컨텐츠를 제공하는 것이 있다. 이러한 방법을 구현하기 위해, 먼저 컨텐츠 서비스 제공업체가 광고업체의 광고용 컨텐츠를 제공받아 인터넷 상에서 쓰일 수 있도록 적절한 파일로 편집 가공한다. 가공된 파일에 검색에 필요한 데이터를 추가하여 DB 서버에 저장시킨다. 이용자가 컨텐츠 서비스 제공업체의 웹 서버로 접속해 서비스 컨텐츠를 선택하면, 이용자의 개인 정보 및 선택한 컨텐츠에 따라 그에 부합되는 적당한 광고 컨텐츠가 서버의 DB로부터 검색되어 이용자에게 제공된다. 이용자가 그 광고 컨텐츠를 감상하면 확인 메시지가 웹 서버로 전달된다. 확인 메시지를 접수한 웹 서버는 이용자가 실제 선택한 컨텐츠를 DB 서버로부터 제공한다.
VOD 스트리밍 서비스와 관련된 다른 광고 제공 기술로서, 이용자가 광고를 시청하면 실제 VOD 컨텐츠에 대해 소정의 과금을 해당 광고주가 부담하는 방식이 이용되기도 한다.
상술한 종래의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스에서는, 이용자가 광고 컨텐츠를 이용한 이후에 실제 컨텐츠를 제공하도록 되어 있다. 이러한 종래의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스에 있어서, 사용자는 선택의 여지 없이 어떤 VOD 컨텐츠 이용시 일방적으로 제공되는 광고만을 선택해야 한다. 따라서, VOD 스트리밍 서비스의 컨텐츠에 대한 새로운 빌링(billing) 모델을 제시하고, 광고 제공과 관련해 사용자의 취향을 반영해 광고를 선택적으로 제공함으로써 사용자의 구매를 이끌어 낼 수 있는 새로운 방식의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스에 대한 필요성이 생겨나게 되었다.
본 발명이 이루고자 하는 기술적 과제는, 사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 서버 및 그 동작 방법을 제공하는데 있다.
본 발명이 이루고자 하는 다른 기술적 과제는, 선택적 광고 시청이 가능한 VOD 서비스를 제공받은 클라이언트 단말 및 그 동작 방법을 제공하는데 있다.
도 1은 일반적인 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 시스템의 개략도이다.
도 2는 본 발명의 클라이언트로 하여금 광고 선택 인터랙션(interaction)을 가능하게 하는 VOD 스트리밍 서버의 개략적 구성도이다.

상기 과제를 해결하기 위한, VOD(Video On-Demand) 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 VOD 서버는, 클라이언트에게 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 제공하고, 클라이언트가 요청한 특정 유형의 광고를 선택적으로 제공하는 서비스 제어부; 및 멀티미디어 컨텐츠, 광고 컨텐츠 및 클라이언트 정보를 저장하는 데이터 저장부를 포함함을 특징으로 한다.
상기 서비스 제어부는, 웹 서비스 엔진(201)은 사용자 억세스 내역을 관리하는 웹 서비스 엔진; 상기 웹 서비스 엔진을 통해 사용자가 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠나 광고 컨텐츠를 검색하여 가져오는 검색 엔진; 상기 검색 엔진이 찾은 컨텐츠를 클라이언트 단말로 전송하는 미디어 스트리밍 엔진; 및 접속하는 클라이언트들의 세션(session)을 관리하는 세션 관리 엔진을 포함함이 바람직하다.
상기 데이터 저장부는, 사용자 정보를 저장하는 사용자 프로파일 데이터베이스; 광고들을 저장하는 광고 컨텐츠 데이터베이스; 및 영화나 음악 등의 실질적으로 사용자에게 서비스될 컨텐츠를 저장하는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 데이터베이스를 포함함이 바람직하다.
상기 다른 과제를 해결하기 위한, VOD 서버로부터 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고를 서비스 받는 클라이언트 단말은, VOD 서버에 억세스하여 원하는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠를 선택해 요청하는 웹 브라우저; 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠의 세션을 관리하는 세션 관리자; 및 세션 관리자의 세션 제어에 따라 VOD 서버로부터 요청하여 받은 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠를 재생하는 재생기를 포함함을 특징으로 한다.
상기 과제를 해결하기 위한, 광고 선택 인터랙션이 가능한 VOD 서버의 서비스 방법은, 클라이언트로부터 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 요청받아 제공하는 단계; 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 제공 시간을 체크해, 소정 시간이 경과되었거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되었으면 클라이언트로의 컨텐츠 제공을 중단하고, 클라이언트로부터 요청된 광고 컨텐츠를 제공하는 단계; 클라이언트로부터 광고 종료 요청 명령을 수신한 후, 클라이언트가 요청했던 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 다시 송신하는 단계를 포함함이 바람직하다.
상기 다른 과제를 해결하기 위한, 클라이언트 단말에서의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 수신 방법은, 사용자로 하여금 특정 영화나 음악 등의 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 선택하도록 하여 선택된 컨텐츠에 대해 VOD 서버로 송신 요청하는 단계; VOD 서버로부터 제공된 상기 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 재생하는 단계; 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되었으면 사용자가 선택한 특정 광고를 VOD 서버에 요청하여 제공받아 재생하는 단계; 및 사용자로부터 광고 보기 종료 명령을 받으면, VOD 서버로부터 다시 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 공급받아 재생하는 단계를 포함함을 특징으로 한다.
상기 광고 선택 단계에서 클라이언트 단말은 사용자로 하여금 광고 종류를 선택할 수 있도록 광고 선택 화면을 제공하는 단계를 포함함이 바람직하다.
상기 광고 보기 종료 명령은 광고 컨텐츠 재생 시간이 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과된 후 허용됨이 바람직하다.
이하에서 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명을 상세히 설명한다.
도 1은 일반적인 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 시스템의 개략도이다.
VOD 스트리밍 서비스 시스템은 VOD 서버(100), 네트웍(110), 클라이언트(120) 및 광고업자(130)로 구성된다.
VOD 서버(100)는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 주체로서, 각종 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 데이터베이스화하여 저장한다.
네트웍(110)은 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 요청 및 컨텐츠 제공시 데이터가 전송되는 공간이다.
클라이언트(120)는 멀티미디어 데이터를 출력할 수 있는 단말기로서, 네트웍(110)을 통해 VOD 서버(100)에 VOD 스트리밍 서비스를 요청하고 VOD 서버(100)가 제공하는 컨텐츠를 선택하여 원하는 컨텐츠를 출력한다.
광고업자(130)는 VOD 서버(100)를 소유하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 제공업자에게 비용을 지불하고 VOD 서버(100)가 이용자에게 실질적인 VOD 컨텐츠를 제공시 자신의 광고를 포함시켜 제공하도록 한다.
도 2는 본 발명의 클라이언트로 하여금 광고 선택 인터랙션(interaction)을 가능하게 하는 VOD 스트리밍 서버의 개략적 구성도이다.
도 2의 VOD 스트리밍 서버는 서비스 제어부(200)와 데이터 저장부(210)를 포함한다.
서비스 제어부(200)는 클라이언트가 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠와 광고업체로부터 의뢰된 광고 컨텐츠를 제공하며, 이때 광고 컨텐츠는 사용자로 하여금 선택 가능하도록 하여, 사용자가 선택한 광고 컨텐츠를 제공한다. 서비스 제어부(200)는 웹 서비스 엔진(201), 검색 엔진(202), 미디어 스트리밍 엔진(203) 및 세션 관리 엔진(204)을 포함한다. 웹 서비스 엔진(201)은 사용자 억세스 내역을 관리한다. 검색 엔진(202)은 웹 서비스 엔진(201)을 통해 사용자가 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠나 광고 컨텐츠를 검색하여 가져온다. 미디어 스트리밍 엔진(203)은 검색 엔진(202)이 찾은 컨텐츠를 전송한다. 세션 관리 엔진(204)은 VOD 서버에 접속하는 다수 클라이언트들의 세션(session)을 관리한다.
데이터 저장부(210)는 사용자 프로파일 데이터베이스(211), 광고 컨텐츠 데이터베이스(212) 및 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 데이터베이스(213)를 포함한다. 사용자 프로파일 데이터베이스(211)는 사용자들의 정보를 저장한다. 광고 컨텐츠 데이터베이스(212)는 VOD 서버가 광고업체들로부터 얻은 광고들을 저장한다. 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 데이터베이스(213)는 영화나 음악 등의 실질적으로 사용자에게 서비스될 컨텐츠를 저장한다.
도 3은 본 발명의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 중 광고 선택 인터랙션(interaction)을 가능하게 하는 VOD 클라이언트 단말의 개략적 구성도이다.
도 3의 VOD 클라이언트 단말은 VOD 서버에 억세스하기 위한 웹 브라우저(300), VOD 서버로부터 제공된 광고와 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 세션을 관리하는 세션 관리자(310) 및 VOD 서버로부터 광고나 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 수신하고 재생하는 재생기(320)를 포함한다.
사용자는 VOD 클라이언트 단말의 웹 브라우저(300)를 통해 VOD 서버에 억세스하여 원하는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 다운받을 수 있다. 또한 광고 종류를 미리 범주화(categorize)시켜 놓고, 그 중 원하는 광고 범위를 사용자로 하여금 선택할 수 있도록 한다. 선택된 광고 범위에 대한 정보는 VOD 서버로 보내지고, VOD는 그에 따라 해당 광고 범주에 해당하는 광고 컨텐츠를 VOD 클라이언트 단말로 보낼 것이다. 이와 달리, VOD 서버가 먼저 제공 가능한 광고들의 정보를 VOD 클라이언트 단말로 제공해, VOD 클라이언트 단말의 웹 브라우저(300)에서 그 가운데 한 광고를 선택하고 그에 따라 VOD 서버에서 해당 광고 컨텐츠를 보내는 방법이 있을 수 있다.
VOD 클라이언트 단말의 세션 관리자(310)는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 세션과 광고 컨텐츠 세션을 관리한다. 즉, 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠가 재생기(320)에 의해 재생되고 있을 때, 소정 재생 시간의 경과나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용의 초과를 체크하여 경과 또는 초과되었으면 재생기(320)로 하여금 재생을 중지하게 하고 웹 브라우저(300)가 사용자에게 광고 선택 기능을 제공하도록 한다. 선택된 광고가 VOD 서버로부터 제공되어지고 재생기(320)가 그 광고 컨텐츠를 재생할 때에도, 세션 관리자(310)는 광고 컨텐츠 재생 시간을 체크하여 소정 시간이 경과 되었으면 사용자로부터 광고 보기 종료 명령을 허용한다. 광고 보기 종류 명령이 입력되면, VOD 클라이언트 단말은 VOD 서버로부터 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 계속 제공받아 재생기(320)를 통해 재생시킨다.
도 4는 본 발명의 광고 선택 인터랙션이 가능한 VOD 서버의 서비스 흐름도를 도시한 것이다.
먼저, VOD 서버로 클라이언트가 영화나 음악 등 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 요청한다(400단계).
VOD 서버는 클라이언트로부터 요청된 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 네트웍을 통해 제공한다(410단계).
VOD 서버는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 제공 시간을 체크해, 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되었으면 클라이언트로의 컨텐츠 제공을 일시 중단한다(420단계).
VOD 서버는 클라이언트로부터 특정 종류별로 구분된 광고 중 한 종류(또는보다 상세한 광고 프로파일 정보)에 대해 요청받는다(430단계).
VOD 서버는 클라이언트가 요청한 광고에 해당하는 광고 컨텐츠를 클라이언트에게 제공한다(440단계).
VOD 서버는 클라이언트로부터 광고 종료 요청 명령을 수신했는지를 체크한다(450단계).
클라이언트로부터 광고 종료 요청 명령이 수신되었으면, VOD 서버는 일시 중지한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 다시 클라이언트에게 전송한다(460단계).
멀티미디어 컨텐츠 전송 후 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되면 다시 사용자가 요청한 광고를 송신하는 등의 동작이 반복되어 수행될 것이다.
도 5는 광고 선택 인터랙션이 가능한 VOD 서버의 서비스 방법광고를 선택하여 볼 수 있는 클라이언트 단말에서의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 수신 동작 흐름도이다.
먼저, 클라이언트 단말은 사용자로 하여금 특정 영화나 음악 등의 멀티미디어를 선택하도록 하여 선택된 컨텐츠에 대해 VOD 서버로 송신 요청한다(500단계).
VOD 서버로부터, 사용자가 선택한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠가 제공되고, 클라이언트 단말은 그 컨텐츠를 재생한다(510단계).
VOD 서버는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 재생 후 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되었는지를 체크한다(520단계).
소정 시간이 경과되었으면, 클라이언트 단말은 컨텐츠의 끝을 인식하고 사용자로 하여금 광고 종류를 선택할 수 있도록 광고 선택 화면을 제공하고, 사용자가특정 광고를 선택했으면, 클라이언트 단말은 그 특정 광고 컨텐츠를 VOD 서버로부터 제공받아 재생한다(530단계).
클라이언트 단말은 광고 컨텐츠 재생 시간이 소정 시간 이상 경과된 후 사용자로부터 광고 보기 종료 명령을 받았는지 체크한다(540단계).
클라이언트 단말은 광고 보기를 종료 시킨 후, VOD 서버로부터 중단된 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 계속 공급받아 재생한다(550단계).
클라이언트 단말은 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 수신 및 재생 후 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되면 다시 사용자로 하여금 특정 광고를 선택하도록 한 후 선택한 광고를 송신하는 등의 동작을 반복하여 수행할 것이다.
도 6은 본 발명의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스가 VOD 서버와 클라이언트 단말(이하 단말) 사이에서 수행되는 동작 흐름을 보인 것이다.
먼저 단말에서 VOD 서버로 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 요청한다(600).
VOD 서버는 요청받은 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 단말로 제공한다(601단계).
멀티미디어 컨텐츠 제공 이후 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되면(도면에서는 예로서 소정 시간을 30분으로 설정하고 있음)이 경과되면 VOD 서버는 단말에 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 전송 중단 신호를 보낸다(602단계).
단말은 VOD 서버에, VOD 서버가 제공 가능한 광고들의 정보를 요청한다(603단계).
VOD 서버가 광고들의 정보를 단말로 제공한다(604단계).
사용자가 단말의 소정 출력장치(웹 브라우저의 화면)를 이용해 표시된 광고들의 정보 중 하나를 선택하면 단말은 VOD 서버로 해당 광고를 요청한다(605단계).
VOD 서버는 단말이 요청한 광고 컨텐츠를 단말로 송신한다(606단계).
단말로부터 VOD 서버로 광고 중단 요청이 들어온다(607단계).
단말은 VOD 서버로 다시 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 제공을 요청한다(608단계).
VOD 서버는 단말이 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 제공한다(609단계).
VOD 서버에서 단말로 보내는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 공급이 완료되기 전까지 상술한 동작이 반복된다.
상술한 바와 같이, VOD 스트리밍 서비스 중, 이용자가 광고를 선택적으로 제공받을 수 있도록 함으로써 새로운 유형의 빌링(billing) 모델이 생겨날 수 있다. 이러한 방식에서는 사용자가 일방적인 광고를 시청하는데서 벗어나 취향을 반영해 광고를 선택할 수 있게 된다. VOD 서버 측면에서는, VOD 스트리밍 서비스 이용자의 취향에 맞는 광고를 맞춤 제공해 줌으로써 이용자의 구매를 이끌어 내기가 용이해 지게 되어 광고주로부터의 광고유치 촉진을 도모할 수 있게 된다.
본 발명에 의하면, 이용자가 광고 종류를 선택할 수 있도록 함으로써 사용자에게는 일방적인 광고 시청을 탈피할 수 있도록 하고, 제공자에게는 시청자의 취향에 맞는 광고 제공에 따른 구매력을 증대시킬 가능성이 높게 되어 광고유치의 수익성을 도모할 수 있다.

Claims (8)

  1. VOD(Video On-Demand) 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 VOD 서버에 있어서,
    클라이언트에게 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 제공하고, 클라이언트가 요청한 특정 유형의 광고를 선택적으로 제공하는 서비스 제어부; 및
    멀티미디어 컨텐츠, 광고 컨텐츠 및 클라이언트 정보를 저장하는 데이터 저장부를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 사용자의 광고 선택이 가능한 VOD 서버.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 서비스 제어부는,
    웹 서비스 엔진(201)은 사용자 억세스 내역을 관리하는 웹 서비스 엔진;
    상기 웹 서비스 엔진을 통해 사용자가 요청한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠나 광고 컨텐츠를 검색하여 가져오는 검색 엔지;
    상기 검색 엔진이 찾은 컨텐츠를 클라이언트 단말로 전송하는 미디어 스트리밍 엔진; 및
    접속하는 클라이언트들의 세션(session)을 관리하는 세션 관리 엔진을 포함함을 특징으로 하는 사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 VOD 서버.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 데이터 저장부는,
    사용자 정보를 저장하는 사용자 프로파일 데이터베이스;
    광고들을 저장하는 광고 컨텐츠 데이터베이스; 및
    영화나 음악 등의 실질적으로 사용자에게 서비스될 컨텐츠를 저장하는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 데이터베이스를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하는 VOD 서버.
  4. VOD 서버로부터 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고를 서비스 받는 클라이언트 단말에 있어서,
    VOD 서버에 억세스하여 원하는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠를 선택해 요청하는 웹 브라우저;
    멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠의 세션을 관리하는 세션 관리자; 및
    세션 관리자의 세션 제어에 따라 VOD 서버로부터 요청하여 받은 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 및 광고 컨텐츠를 재생하는 재생기를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 선택적 광고 시청이 가능한 VOD 서비스를 제공받는 클라이언트 단말.
  5. 광고 선택 인터랙션이 가능한 VOD 서버의 서비스 방법에 있어서,
    클라이언트로부터 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 요청받아 제공하는 단계;
    멀티미디어 컨텐츠 제공 시간을 체크해, 소정 시간이 경과되거나 소정 시간의 컨텐츠 내용이 초과되면 클라이언트로의 컨텐츠 제공을 중단하고, 클라이언트로부터 요청된 광고 컨텐츠를 제공하는 단계;
    클라이언트로부터 광고 종료 요청 명령을 수신한 후, 클라이언트가 요청했던 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 다시 송신하는 단계를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 사용자 선택 광고를 제공하는 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 제공 방법.
  6. 클라이언트 단말에서의 VOD 스트리밍 서비스 수신 방법에 있어서,
    사용자로 하여금 특정 영화나 음악 등의 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 선택하도록 하여 선택된 컨텐츠에 대해 VOD 서버로 송신 요청하는 단계;
    VOD 서버로부터 제공된 상기 특정 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 재생하는 단계;
    소정 시간이 경과되었으면 사용자가 선택한 특정 광고를 VOD 서버에 요청하여 제공받아 재생하는 단계; 및
    사용자로부터 광고 보기 종료 명령을 받으면, VOD 서버로부터 다시 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 공급받아 재생하는 단계를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 선택적 광고 시청이 가능한 VOD 서비스 수신 방법.
  7. 제6항에 있어서,
    광고 선택 단계에 있어서, 클라이언트 단말은 사용자로 하여금 광고 종류를 선택할 수 있도록 광고 선택 화면을 제공하는 단계를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 선택적 광고 시청이 가능한 VOD 서비스 수신 방법.
  8. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 광고 보기 종료 명령은 광고 컨텐츠 재생 시간이 소정 시간 이상 경과된 후 허용됨을 특징으로 하는 선택적 광고 시청이 가능한 VOD 서비스 수신 방법.
