An antimony-free combination of a phosphate-based flame retardant, especially an aryl diphosphate, and an organoclay affords synergistic flame retardant properties to polymer blends, especially polyphenylene ether-polystyrene blends and blends of polycarbonates with styrene copolymers such as ABS copolymers.
