f VM) n v ATENT FFICEo JOHN E. SCOTT, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,095, dated April 23, 1872.
-Specication describing a new and useful Sash Lock and Stop, invented by JOHN E. SCOTT, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland.
The invention relates to reversible sashlocks, and will rst be fully described and then clearly pointed out in claim.
The drawing is a sectional elevation of .a portion of a window-sash and its frame.
A represents the sash, and B its frame, in which it slides. The sash A has a concavity, a, in which is preferably placed a metallic lining, C, whose sides converge to` a point, c. Here is made in the lining a perforation, which connects concavity a with a correspondinglyshaped but smaller concavity, a. D is a'rod, having knob d and spring cl2. The end of rod is also preferably provided with a friction-roll, d1, but not necessarily.
The mode of operation is as follows: The rod D being turned so that spring d2 presses the roll d1 upwardly against the frame B, as shown in the drawing, a resistance is provided against any downward pressure of the sash, while the latter may be moved in the direction of the pressure of spring rod without obstruction. The rod D being now reversed, the sash will slide downto the bottom, while it is likewise effectually locked against any upward movement.
By this construction a very simple, effective, and durable double-reversible sash-lock is obtained.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The spring-pressed rod D, reversible by Withdrawal, and applied in one side of a sash and against the frame thereof, as described, so as to produce a double-reversible sash-lock.
JOHN E. SCOTT.
