To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES D. ADAMS, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stock-Cars, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to the art of animal husbandry and more particularly to detachable and removable partitions for stock cars.

The invention has for its object, to divide a stock car into compartments, thereby providing means for preventing the cattle or animals that are being transported from jostling or injuring each other or themselves when the car is in transit.

A further object is to construct the partitions so that the ii'oor space of the car can be easily divided into compartments of various size, either transversely or longitudinally, thereby providing means for dividing the iioor space into large or small compartments as desired.

A further object is to provide adjusting means, whereby the various gates may be adjusted and firmly secured, in the car, according to the various widths or variations of the cars.

A further obj ect is to so construct the gate supporting standards so that they may be adjusted according to the various distances between the roof beams and flooring of the cars.

A further object is to construct the partition so that the various gates can be moved independently of each other.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the details of construction and combination of arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings l designates a stock car of the conventional form, 2 the flooring thereof and la the sides of the car.

Aseries of partitions is provided and each partition is so constructed that it may be secured transversely or longitudinally of the car as desired. A series of posts 10L is provided and the posts are secured against rotation by means of the pins 2l, carried by the floor flanges 22, which are in turn secured to the ioor by means of screws or the like 23. Gates 14a and l5a are hingedly mounted upon the posts 10*1 by means of the hinges 24. Each hinge comprises a post engaging section 25 having a turn buckle extension 26, whereby upon the adjustment of said turn buckle the gates may be adjusted laterally.

Secured to the sides and ends of the car are j a series of channels 27, which are adapted to be engaged by the free edges 28 of the gates. Rigidly motmted on the posts 10a. are a series of gate retaining channels 29, adapted to receive the free edges 28 of the gates when they are adjusted longitudinally of the car. It will be seen that in this form of the invention, the gates can be rigidly secured in transverse or longitudinal positions, thereby allowing the formation of small or large compartments. It will also be seen, that the partitions can be easily placed in stock cars and the variations in width of said cars provided for by means of the turn buckle 26.

The upper ends 30 of the gate posts 10a are provided with internally threaded sections 31 having integral extensions 32 adapted to engage apertures 33, in the roof beams 12 of the car. By this construction, it will be seen, that variations as to distance from said roof beams to the iiooring will be provided fOr. The gates may be made of any material, such as wood or metal.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new anduseful is l.
