JSEPARABLE,1NTERFITTING:'PINQERSQ? To all whom it mag concern: V 7
Be it known that LJOHNEJHEHAN, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at irginia, in the county of St. Louis, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new, and. useful Improvements in Separable ZInterfitting Pincers; and I do hereby. declare the following to be a fulhclear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the 'artto which it appertains to make and use the same. j
The invention relatesto p1ncers,andmoref particularly to the class of separable inter-l fitting pairs ofpincers. 1 l a The primary object of the invention is the provision of separable interfittingpairs of pincers, wherein on the .interfitting thereof the same will afford multiple gripping jaws for clamping a piece of work of squared formation at divers points thereOf to more firmly hold the work, the pincers when separated Canbe used nary Well known the employment of the pairs of pincers together or independently of each other.
Another object of the invention is the provision of separable interfitting pairs of pincers of this character, wherein a squared rod or the like piece of work can be positively and securely gripped by clamping the four sides thereof to" avoid any possible slipping of the work or the pincers thereon and thus enabling the handling of the work with despatch, and also permitting the use of each pair of pincers singly on the separation of the pairs should the occasion require.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a separable tool of this character, wherein the pincers can be fitted with each other with despatch and also readily separated for the individual use thereof, the tool being simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its operation, readily and quickly assembled, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of elements as will be hereinafter fully de scribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of the tool showing the pairs of pincers interfitted with each Specification of Letters Patent.

other and constructed inaccordnace with Y Referring to the drawing in detailA clesq ignates generallynone pair of pincers, and B another pair of pincers, the details of be hereinafter fully described. The pincers A -comprise the j straight spaced parallel companion jaws 5' and 6 respeotiiely formed with thereversely curved rearwardly extending handle 7 extensions 7 r 7 which at, the curvatures 8 therein adjacent to the innerends of the jaws 5 and 6 cross each other and are pivotally connected together through the medium of a transversepivot the curvatures 8 of the handle extensions 7 at the crossing point thereof for permitting the opening and closing of the jaws 5 and 6 when actuating the handle extensions in the use of the pincers.
The jaws 5 and 6 at their inner ends are formed with abutment shoulders 10 and the inner gripping faces 11 of these jaws when the latter are in parallel relation to each other are spaced apart for the interfitting of the other pair of pincers B with the pincers A in a manner presently described. The pincers B comprises a pair of straight parallel jaws 12 and 13 respectively formed with reversely curved handle extensions 14:, which at the curvatures 15 therein cross each other and are pivotally connected together through the medium of a transverse pivot pin 16 which is mounted in the curvatures 15 at the crossing point thereof for permitting the opening and closing of the aws in the use of the pincers B. The handle extensions 14 at the inner edges of the curvatures 15 are cut away to form a crotch recess 17 providing an abutment shoulder 18 for. the pincers A when interfitted with the pincers B. The jaws 12 and 13 of the pincers B when in parallel relation to each other contact with one another.
To interfit the pincers A and B the handle end of the latter is arranged at the jaw end of the pincers B with the handle extensions pair of the other pair curvatures 15 of the handle let at right angles to the handle extensions 7 of the respective pincers and thereafter the crossed pivoted curvatures 15 of said handle extensions 1% are passed between the jaws 5 and 6 so that the abutment shoulders 10 of the pincers A will engage withthe abutment shoulders 18 of the pincers B, the curvatures 8 of the handle extensions 7 being designed to enter therecessl? in the extensions 1% and in this manner the pincers A andB are separably interfitted with each other with the jaws of the respective pincers at right angles to each other so that in the use 01 the pincers the said work on four sides thereof to firmlyhold the same.
It is clearly obvious that the pincers A and B can be separated from each other for the use thereof singly, or both of said pincers can be employed independently in the ordinary well known manner.
llhat is claimed is 1. The combination of pairs of pincers, each having pivotally connected jaws,'tlie jaws of one pair of pincers being spaced apart ior removable interlitting of said pairs of pincers with the jaws of one pair at right angles to the jaws of the other pair to cooperate with each other, the pairs of 'pincers Copies of this patent may be obtainedtor five cents each,

jaws will grip a piece of menace being formed with shoulder'rests, located adjacent to the pivotal connection of the jaws thereof, whereby one pair of pincers will abutthe other when interfitted therewith.
2. The combination of pairs of pincers, each having straight parallel jaws-pivotally connected with each other and "crossed re versely curved handle extensions, the jaws of one pair of pincers being spaced apart for removably receiving the crossed handle extensions of the other pincers therebetween, said other pair of pincers being formed with a recess'between thehandle extensions for the int'erfitting of the other handle extensions,-and shoulders formed in the recess and at the inner end of thespaced jaws for abutting engagement with each other.
3. A tool of the character described conipris'ing a plurality of pairs of pincers rein intersecting planes, the jaws ofeach pair beingat opposite sides of the plane of operation of he jaws of the other pair.
ln'testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
