R. M. SILVA. HOSE SUPPORTER. APPLICATIQN FILED AUG-26. 1920.

WITNESSES R MS/L VA ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES RICHARD MONROE SILVA, .OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented May 3, 1921.
Application filed August 26, 1920. Serial No. 406,115.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD M. SmvA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to hose. supporters, and is particularly adaptable for use with either stockings or socks.
An object of the invention is to provide a hose supporter in which substantially all the pull or strain is taken off the hose, the reeliminating the possibility of ripping and pulling threads in hose of silk or delicate texture.
Another object is to provide a supporter in which by a simple adjustment the supporter is adaptable for use either in connection with a sock or in connect on with a stocking.
A further object is to provide a supporter connected with a body garment which tends to keep the body garment from slipping out of place.
Another object of the invention resides in. the particular arrangement and construction of parts which will be apparent from a consideration of the description and claims taken in connection with the drawings.
It is sometimes desirable where a body 'arment is worn without being clasped too tightly to the body, to provide some means whereby this garment shall mainta n its proper position. In addition, it IS desirable to have a hose supporter, adapted for both socks and stockings, in which the strain or pull of the connection between the hose and the body garment will be taken ofl the sock or stocking to eliminate the pulling out of threads in the hose.
,To this end I provide a hose supporter comprising a member which can be attached to thelinib of the wearer some distance from the body garment and connect the body garment with this member, which is elastic, so as'to create a steady tension on the body garment to maintain it in a certain position with respect to the body. This body garment may be a corset, which, f not tightly fastened to the body, mayslip upward. This connection prevents this act on. Adjustable hose-supporting tabs cooperating with the above-mentioned means are provided with suitable fasteners andcan be attached either to the member surrounding the limb or to the semi-elastic connectiongadapt- 'ing them for connection either with a sock .or a stocking, In the event that stockings are worn, the stockings are pulled up over the member gripping the limb to conceal. the member.
The invention-is illustrated in the drawings, of whicht Figure 1 shows the device applied to the limb of a wearer using :socks;
Fig. 2 shows the device applied when a stocking is being worn;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the connection between the body garment and the hose; and
Fig. 4 is a detail of the limb gripping member with the hose-supporting tabs attached thereto As shown in the drawings, the invention is used in connection with a body garment or corset 1. To a band of the corset, semielastic straps 2 of any suitable material extend downwardly along the limb of the wearer. These straps are provided with the usual adjusting buckles 3 and with buttons 4. 0n the lower ends thereof, adapting them to be fastened to metallic loops 5 attached to the upper edge of a band 6. This band is made of any suitable fabric and may be somewhat elastic. It is adapted to be adjusted by means of a buckle 7 around the limb of the wearer, preferably just below the knee. After adjusting this gripping member or band 6 in this position, and suitably adjusting the straps 2, a definite tension in these straps will tend to maintain a constant pull on the corset l, which is sometimes desirable.
This band 6 is provided around its face with a plurality of members 8 which form part of a. means for attaching to the band 6 a hose-supporting tab 10 in which is cooperating fastening means 9. These fastening devices 8 and 9 may be the usualsnap fasteners or any suitable form of fasteners. The lower end of the tab 10 is provided with the usual loop and button hose fastening device 11. The straps 2, intermediate their length between the band 6 and the corset 1, are also provided with similar fasteners 8 to which the tabs 10 can be attached.
In Fig. 1- the tabs 10 are shown depending from the strap 6 to engage with a sock 12; whereas in Fig.- 2 the tabs 10 are fastened to the fasteners 8 and depend therefrom to connect with a stocking l3. \Vhen a stocking is worn, the band 6 and the lower portion of the straps 2 are hidden by the fabric of the stocking. It Will be observed that in either case; the strain of any pullbetween 't'he corset through the straps 2 will be taken and borne by the band 6, thus relieving the tabs 10 of any pull either on the soclror gstoolring. and thereby eliminating the tendency to'pull the threads of the same.
' What I claim is:
'1, A hose supporter attached to a body garment;comprising a band attached to'the limbol the ,wearer some distance fromthe garment, an elastic connection between the band and the garment, hose-supporting niea'"i1s,'means on'said band, and means on said elastic connection intermediate its length between the band andsaid body garment, both of saidmeans adapted to cooperate with'said supporting means to sup port short or long hose, respectively.
2. A hose supporter attached to a body garment, comprising a semi-elastic band attached to a limb of the wearer below the knee, an ad ustable elastic CODIlCt10IIbetween the band and the body garment, hosesupporting tabs, means on said band, and means on said elastic connection :lIlteIIIlGdltlierebetween, a hose-supporting tab adapt ed to be attached to saidband, and'm'eans on said elastic connection adapted to receive adapted 'to lie beneath the "hoserwhen the hose extends above the'ba'nd' and; connects with the tab on the elastic connection.
