Be it known that T, VERN LINN Ruirnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roseburg, in the county of Douglas and tate of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Therapeutic Apparatus for Treatment of the Lower Portion ofthe Body; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to therapeutic apparatuses, and more particularly to an apparatus specially adapted for treatment of the lower portion of the human body.

One of the main objects of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the character paratus as applied.

In carrying my invention into effect, I provide a cot 1 of suitable construction which. is provided with a transversely disposed body inclosing casing designated generally by 2, this casing consisting of an upper semi-cylindrical section 3 and a lower semi-cylindrical section 4: hinged to the up per section as at 5. The lateral walls of each of the sections 3 and 4 are cut out at their central portions so that, when these sections are in operative relation, that is, when the upper section 3 is turned clownwardly so as to be supported by the lower section 4, these two sections cooperate to provide an annular hollow casing having a central circular opening. The inner surface of each of the sections 3 and t is highly polished to provide a reflecting surface, and each of the sections contains a plurality of electric lamps 6, these lamps being disposed Specification of Letters Patent.

circumferentially of the sections and extending transversely thereof. The lamps 6 are mounted in suitable sockets carried by the casings and are adapted to be connected by wires 7 to a socket 8 connected to a suitable light circuit.

In practice, the patient is placed upon the cot 1, after which the upper section 3 of the casing is lowered so that the sections 3 and i completely inclose the lower portion of the patients body, as in Fig. 1. The two sec tions 3 and l fit snugly together at their adjacent ends so as to form tight closures, and a suitable cloth or pad may be placed about the patients body and the edges of each of the end plates of the respective sections, this cloth serving to prevent escape of heat from the casing. After the patient has been properly placed upon the cot and the casing has been closed as described, the lamps 6 are illuminated so as to generate light and heat. The light and heat rays are directed by the reflecting inner surfaces of the sections of the casing onto the patients body and penetrate the same, the dry heat thus produced and the light rays coacting to kill the disease germs and reduce inflammation while promoting circulation and the growth of the friendly germs, thus effecting a cure. I have found this apparatus, due to its ability to concentrate the heat and light rays upon the body so as to cause penetration of these rays into the body, very efficient in the treatment of diseases and affections of the lower cavity of the body.

lVhat I claim is:

1. Tn an apparatus of the character described, a cot provided with a cutout intermediate its length, an annular casing of sectional construction adapted to be fitted about a patients body so as to extend completely around the same, the casing having a lower section fitting into the cutout of the cot and an upper section connected with the lower section, the inner surface of said casing being polished to provide a reflecting surface, and light and heat generating means positioned within the casing.

2. In an apparatus of the character described, the cot having a cutout intermediate its length, an annular casing supported in the cutout of the cot and extending below and above the upper face thereof and adapted to fit about a patients body so as to extend completely around the same, and a plurality of electric lamps mounted within the casing in spaced relation circumferentially thereof, for supplying heat and light to the portion of the patients body inclosed by the CelSlllg.

3. In an apparatus of the character described, a cot, a substantially semi-cylindrical casing section carried by the cot transversely thereof, said section having its central portion cut out to receive the lower portion of a persons body lying upon the couch, an upper easing section adapted to fit upon the lower section and to extend about the upper portion of the patients body, said
