WINDOW-SCREEN FASTENER.

This invention relates to means whereby fly screens may be conveniently and positively secured to the outside of window frames in a manner to be readily removed and replaced as required.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification,
Figure 1 is a detail view of a portion of a window frame and fly screen illustrating the application of the invention, two extreme positions of the fastener being illustrated by full and dotted lines,
Figure 2 is a section on the line 0cw of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the fastener.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The fastener consists of an elongated plate 1 having a threaded opening 2 at one end and a boss or thickened portion 3 at its opposite end. The thickened end 3 is provided with an opening 1 to receive a screw 5 or analogous fastening whereby to secure the fastener to the window frame 6. A thumbscrew 7 is mounted in the threaded opening 2.
In practice, the plate 1 is secured to the outer edge of the window frame 6 by means of the screw 5 passing through the opening 1. The screw 5 is not tightened so as to bind 1921. Serial No. 471,713.
the plate 1 and prevent movement thereof. W'hen not in operative position the plate 1 hangs loose upon the fastening 5 in line with the window frame 6 so as to be out of the way. When the fly screen 8 is placed in position it engages the outermost stop 9 of the window frame and is held in place by swinging the plate 1 into horizontal position and turning the thumbscrew 7 until its inner end engages the frame of the screen 8, thereby clamping the same against the stop 9. it is to be understood that there may be as many fastenings 1 as may be found necessary and each side of the window frame will be similarly supplied with the fastenings. If the distance between the outer side of the stop and the outer edge of the window frame 6 is less than the thickness of the frame of the screen 8, the fastening 1 may be reversed to bring the boss or thickened end 3 against the outer edge of the window frame 6 whereby to space the plate 1 farther from the outer edge of the frame 6 so as to accommodate the frame of the screen 8. This will necessitate reversing the thumbscrew 7, as will be readily understood.
V'Vhat i claimed is:
1. In combination with a window frame and a window screen, means whereby the window screen may be secured in the frame in aposition aside of the path of travel of the sash, said means consisting of an elongated plate pivotally attached to the outer side of the frame and an adjustable screw passing through the free end of the plate and adapted to engage the frame of the screen.
2. A fastening device comprising an elongated plate having an offset at one side adjacent one end thereof, said plate having a threaded opening at its other end, and a set screw passing through the threaded opening and engaging the members to be secured. said plate being reversible whereby the end receiving the screw may be spaced from the member to be secured by placing the offset portion of the plate adjacent the part by which the plate is carried.
3. A fastening device having a fastening plate to bridge a fixed member and the member to be fastened thereto, said plate being reversible relatively to said members, a spacing element on said plate and offset from one side thereof to directly engage one of said members in one of the positions of the plate, said plate having an opening therethrough surrounded by said spacing member, fastening means for disposition through said opening in both positions of the plate, said plate having a second opening, said plate having screw threads within said second opening, and a securing screw
