CONCRETE WALL.
Application filed January 20, 1920. Serial No. 352,707.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALONZO G. REYNOLDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda, State of California, have invented a new and useful Concrete lVall; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to concrete wall constructions and has for its object to provide a wall, wherein air pockets are provided. The wall being constructed from a series of superimposed slabs forming outer and inner walls, said outer and inner walls are provided with means for holding them spaced so that a form may be placed between the same at or near the points where they join or abut each other and columns may be poured between the walls, also to provide reinforcing rods or wire mesh in the slabs, said rods or mesh being bent and extending outwardly adjacent to their ends so that they may be imbedded in the poured columns thereby forming a tying means for the slabs of each wall with the poured columns.
A further object is to pro-vide a wall slab having its bottom and one of its vertical ends provided with a curved notch or groove and the top and the other end with a correspondingly shaped rib so that when the slabs are superimposed and formed into courses, the ribs of one slab will engage the grooves of the adjacent slabs thereby forming additional holding means when the slabs are formed into a wall.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides `in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a portion of thel wall constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
extending reinforcing 9, the ends of which project outwardy at substantially right angles to the slabs so that their portions 10 will be disposed between the spaced walls 3 and 4 adjacent the vertical joints. The portions 10 of thereinforcing being so disposed, it will be seen that when the columns 11 are formed said columns will be anchored to the walls 2 and To additionally brace thecolumns 11, vertically disposed reinforcing rods 12 are embedded'therein. It will be seen that a wall construction is pro- .vided wherein air pockets 13 are provided thereby reducing the amount of material required for building a wall and at the same time decreasing the cost of construction. The air pockets also allow ventilation and prevent the collection of dampness within the body of the wall.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 'A wall comprising spaced walls formed from plastic slabs, interlocking means between the vertical ends of said slabs and in vertical alignment, plasticA columns disposed between spaced walls at the points of engagement of the slabs which slabs engage each other centrally of the column, horizontally disposed reinforcing rods extending through the'slabs, the ends of said reinforcing rods extending inward-ly at right angles from .the slabs at points `spaced from their ends, the inwardly extending portions of the horizontally disposed reinforcing rods being bent to forni outwardly extending neme to this specification in the presence of hooks, said hooks being imbedded in the plas` two snloscribinfY Witnesses. tic columns, and vertically disposed rent'orc- ALONZO (USTAVIS REYNOLDS. 5 ing rods extending through said columns Witnesses:
and through said hooks.v thereby tying the J. B. LANKTREE. adjacent ends of the slabs to the columns. E. CI-IUCOVICH.
