Be it known that I, CrrARLns FREDERICK GAUNT, of the city of Birmingham, Eng land, subject of the King of Great Britain, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Hair- Cutting, Shaving, or Combing Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionthereof.

This invention hasreferen e to improvements in and connected with hair cutting, shaving, or combing devices, and has for its object to provide: a simple and readily operable means for freeing or cleaning the teeth of the comb or combs or guard of the device from the hair or other foreign substance which remains between the teeth. This invention can be applied to different forms of device of the character hereinbefore referred to, but for the purpose of the present specification it will be described in the main as applied to a hair cutting device of the safety razor type.

The invention consists of the combination with a hair cutting, shaving, or combing device of means whereby the spaces between the teeth of the comb or guard can be periodically engaged by a resilient toothed member, the teeth of which are adapted to have a passage through the spaces between the'teeth of the comb or guard, and thereby to readily remove any hair or other foreign substance which has adhered to 01' remained clogged between the teeth of the comb or guard.

' The invention will now be described in conjunction with the accompanying sheet of drawings which illustrate its application to a hair cutting device of a safety razor type, the safety razor illustrated being well known it will not be necessary to describe its construction, but only to refer particularly to the additions thereto which constitute the present invention.

For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings in whichsimilar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein: s

position at or near the outer extremities of the teeth of the comb or guard as seen in Figure 2,'b ut by compressing the arms 10 between the finger and thumb, say when the device is in use the upper ends thereof are forced inward through the spaces between the teeth of the comb or guard and occupy the position seen in Figure 4, and can be there maintained while the device is in use.

At any period during or after use the spring arms are released, and thereupon automati cally move outwardly thus causing the teeth 10 thereof to pass through the spaces between the teeth of the comb or guard!) by which means any hair or particles adhering vice of the safety razor type illustrated are of particular advantage and utility when the device is in use as will be readily appreciated.

As a means of connecting the-spring arms 10 I may employ the. coupled sheet metal links 11 which are linked together at their inner ends and connected at their outer ends to the rings 12 formed on the spring arms 10.

The arms 10 may be connected to the handle by riveting, soldering or brazing instead of by the means shown in the drawing. or stops may be put in comb to prevent fork coming right out of teeth. What I claim is as follows 1. A device of the type described consisting of a blade; a holder for the blade including a toothed guard and a toothed member mounted upon the holder and having its teeth movable between the teeth of the guard.

A safety razor consisting of a handle having a toothed guard mounted upon one end thereof in T-forrn and adapted to carry a blade, means for removing all foreign sub-- stance from Within the spaces between the teeth of the guard; said means consisting of a pair of resilient members; a collar securing the lower end of each member upon the handle with their upper ends disposed adja cent the toothed sides of the guard said upper ends being toothed and adapted to be moved into the spaces between the teeth of the guard; and a flexible connection between the members adapted to limit outward move ment thereof relatively to the guard.

A device of the type described consisting of a holder for blade including a guard and means for ejecting foreign substances which may accumulate in the guard.

6. A device of the type described consisting of a holder for a blade including a toothed guard and resilient means for eject ing; i reign substances which accumulate with n the spaces between the teeth of the guard.
