To all whom alt my camera."
Be it mowu thatl, 'Gnovnn, B. Mumps,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Les An Ice, and
- the cost of production, an further to .pro-
ride a @rter of relatively simple &practical structure and which will'be very e active in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view an invention consists in certain features o novelty hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated, in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 1s a perspective view of a garter of my improved. construction.
Fig. 2 is a detail section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1'.
Referring by numerals to the accompanyinfi drawings which illustrate a practical embo iment of my invention, 10 designates a band or-strap that is adapted to encircle the limb of the wearer, said band being formed of rubber or compositionhaving rubber as its.
' principal ingredient. This band is soft and flexible and 'is provided near one end with a series of apertures or eyelets 11, any one t which is adapted to receive a headed stud 12 that is formed into I with the opposite end of the band 'w on the latter 1s m fiosition upon the limb for use.
he stud is treated or'vulcanized so that it is substantially harder than the body of the band.
Arranged on the outer face ofthe band 1 lO-adjacent to the stud 12 are transversely lid disposed loo s 13 that serve to retainthe.
overlying'eh of'the/band that is secured to Formed integral with band is a decnding tab 14: and projecting outwardly rom the lo wer portion thereof is a headed st-ud' 15. This stud is treated or vulcanized so that it is much harder than the relativel soft flexible tab 14. Formed integral wit the upper portion of ta M is an overlying tab .16, in the lower p rtion of which is formed an aperture or eyelet 17, and the latter being adapted to receive the head of stud 15 when the garter is in use. lit will be understood that when the garter is in use a part of the hose or stockin is arranged over stud 15, after which ta 1% is manipulated so as to engage said stud and that ortion of the hose or stocking covering t e same, and when the stud is seated in the aperture or eyelet 17 the hose or stocking will be firmly retained in proper posis1t1on upon the limb of the wearer.
Inasmuch as the entire garter is formed from a single piece of material it can be easily and cheaply produced and as said arter is constructed wholly-of rubber or ruber com osition, it will not deteriorate as a result 0 contact with water,.therefore the garter is particularly useful and serviceable 1n connection with the hosiery forming a part of a bathing suit.
Obviously the construction ot the garter may be varied in slight details without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
ll claim as my invention:
As a new article of manufacture, a garter composed wholly of rubber and includin a leg encircling strap, one end being provi ed with a series of apertures,' an aperture engagmg stud projecting from the other end of said strap, a airof tabs formed integal with and depen ing from the strap, the inner'one of said tabs beingprovided with a stud and the outer one of said tabs being provided with an aperture that is adapted to'reoeive said last mentioned stud.
In testimony whereof ll hereunto ailix my signature this 24th day of April, 1922.
. enovan e. MELLUS.
