FIGURE PROJECTING TOY.
Application led March 8, 1926. Serial No. 93,051.
My invention has for its object to provide an extremely interesting and fascinating toy which, as illustrated, comprises a ligure representing a rearing bronco and a second fig- :i ure representing a cowboy with mechanism for imparting movements to the bronco and throwing the cowboy through the air to cause him to make a complete somersault and, when Correctly thrown, to light astride io the bronco.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

The improved toyl includes two `figures 6 and 7 one of which has the outline of a rearing horse and the other `of which has an outline of a. man or boy with his legs spread. Preferably each iigure6 and 7 is cut from a single sheet of fibre to gprevent the same from warping or being broken. A lithograph sheet 8 is secured to each side of the figure 6 and represents a rearing bronco having thereon theregulation western bridle' 9 and saddle 10. The `figure 7 has-secured-to the front Yand back thereof colored 'lithograph sheets 11 that represent a cowboy clothed inthe regulation wearingapparel. Weighted feet 12, of lead or other heavy material, are secured to the legs of the iigure 7.

The platform 13 is supported in a raised position on end blocks 18. A coiled spring 19, anchored to the inner face of the rear block 18 and attached tothe throwing lever 16 below its pivot 17, normally holds said lever with freedom 'for rearward swinging movement, until lstopped by said block ina hori-. To impart substantially like movements to the figures 6 and 7, the followingconnections are provided, to wit: a short vertically eX- tended lever 20 is inserted through -a longitudinally extended slot in the platform 13 and intermediately pivoted thereto at 21. A link 22 connects the Vthrowing lever 16 above its pivot 17, -to the upper end of the lever 20, and a link 23 connects the lower end-of' said lever 2O to the lower edge of the block 11i and below the pivot l15. Said link '23 is intermediately coiled to forma recoil spring 24. The operating connections 20, 22 and 213 are such as to hold the ligure in a rearing position when the throwing lever 16 is in normal or upright position, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 2.
To .play with the toy, the throwing lever is drawn rearward against the tension'of the spring 19 until stopped by the rear end block 18 in a horizontal position, as illustrated by full lines in Fig.` 2. rli-his movement of the throwing lever 16 also draws the ligure 6 into a still further rearing position. The figure 7 is then placed astride the throwing lever 416, as shown by full lines in Fig. 2 and said lever released. When the throwing lever 16 is released, the spring 19 which has been held under tension will swing said lever forward and throw the figure 7 onto the figure 6, as indicated by full lines in Fig. 8, and in which position of the figure 7 the .same is astride the saddle 9. The flight of the figure 7 to the figure 6 is indicated by ar' rows in Fig. 3, and it will be noted that said figure 7 makes acomplete somersault.
The purpose of the recoil spring 211 is v to prevent a movement of the figure 6, at the time the ligure 7 lights thereon, `that will throw said figure 7 from the figure 6.

The above described toy has in actual usage proven highly entertaining and fascinating.

A toy comprising a platform, a ligure representing a ln-onco pivoted to the platforni at its rear feet for rocking nnwement, a throwing lever pivoted to the platform, back of said ligure, for swinging movement in the plane of the rocking movement of said ligure, an operating connection from said lever to the ligure, a spring normally holding said lever in an upright position and arranged to he placed under tension when said lever is moved rearward into a horizontal position. said operating connection being arranged to hold the ligure in rearing position when said lever is in an upright position and to move said ligure in a still further rearing position when said lever is moved rearward into a horizontal position, and a loose ligure representing a cowbody with his legs spread and having weighted feet, said loose ligure being adapted to he supported astride said lever, when in a rear horizontal position, and thrown toward the lirst noted lig ure by said lever when released, said loose figure, when accurately thrown by said le- Ver, being arranged to light on the firstnoted figure in a straddled position.
