This invention relates to means for detachably securing ash trays to the upright member or post of smokers stand, and has for its object:

To provide a structural formation and combination of parts, whereby a firmand substantial attachment of a removable ash tray to an upright member of a smokers stand is attained, with a ready and convenient removal and replacement of the ash tray from time to time as may be required, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the construction shown in the drawing, the post or upright member ,1, of a smokers stand or the like, is provided near its upper end with a pair of lateral out-hanging bracket arms 2 and 3, in vertically spaced relation,

providing a receiving space in which a marginal portion of an open top tray 4 is adapted to have supporting engagement.

In this improvement the upper bracket arm 2, is a semi-circular form providing a semicircular recess 5, in the under surface of the arm for the reception and engagement of the hereinafter described complementary formation of a marginal portion of the ash tray above referred to.

In connectionwith the formation of the upper arm 2, above described, the lower bracket arm 3, has the form of an approximately horizontal prong, and of a wedge formation, as shown more particularly in Fig. 2, and adapted to have holding engagement in a recess 6, of a complementary formation in the under surface of the removable tray 4, aforesaid.

The ash tray 4, in this improvement is of a'shallow tray type, with one portion of its margin formed with a pair of upstanding lugs 7, arranged in transverse spaced relation 1928. Serial No. 284,488.

as shown in Fig. 2, and between which the respective sides of the upper bracket arm 2, has engagement 'to aid in preventing lateral play of the tray 4, in horizontal directions. In addition the tray 4, is formed on its underside with the above mentioned recess or groove 7, extending inwardly from its margin and having a complementary wedge formation to that of the bracket arm 3, so as to straddle and fit the same, thus providing an effective engagement of the parts and a prevention of any independent movement in "either a horizontal or in a downward direction.

With the above described construction the tray member 4, when in the inclined position with relation to the post or upright 1, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, is adapted to be moved into place between the upper'and lower bracket'members 2 and 3, and so that when swung downward into a normal horizontal position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, a positive and substantial engagement between the tray 4 and upright 1, is attained; with a subsequent separation of the parts, readily effected by a reverse operation of the tray to that just described.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is:

In a stand of the type described, the combination of an upright member having at its upper end an overhanging bracket of a curved shape and with a lower bracket in vertically spaced relation beneath said upper, bracket, the lower bracket extending in an approximately horizontal plane and having a wedge form in cross section, the upper bracket member having a curved form providing an open bottom receiving recess, and a detachable tray member, having a marginal formation corresponding with the engaging portions of the aforesaid brackets adapting the tray for detachable engagement between the aforesaid upper and lower bracket arms.
