Description

May 7-, 1929.
H. H ERMANSON AGRICULTURAL TOOL 7 Filed Feb. 14, 1929 Jwuwtoo Patented May 7, 1929.
UNITED STA HERMAN nnmymnson. or iurnnnn, NEBRASKA.
AGRICULTURAL TOOL.
Application filed February 14, 1929. Serial No. 339,989.
This invention relates to agricultural tools and particularly to hoes, the object being to provide a hoe in which the handle may be set at any desired angle to the blade, and
the blade with the handle bracket may be produced expeditiously and at a low cost. The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly defined.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hoe embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a central section;
Fig. 3 is a plan viewxof the blank from which the blade is formed.
The blade 1 is produced from a sheet metal blank having one corner cut away on an oblique line, 2, and the opposite corner curved, as at 8, to form a quadrant 4. A slit 5 is out along one edge of the quadrant inwardly from that end edge of the blank which is remote from the oblique edge 2, said slit being parallel with the long straight edge 6 of the blank which is sharpened to form a cutting edge which may sever roots or stalks, An opening 7 is formed through the quadrant 4: at the angle of the same and a series of openings 8 is formedthrough the quadrant adjacent the arcuate edge thereof and concentric with the opening 7, The blade is completed by bending the quadrant up to stand at right angles to the blank as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The handle or shank 9 is of the usual form and may be shod with metal at its attaching end, as indicated at 10. An eye 11 is provided at the extremity of the handle and a pivotbolt or rivet 12 is fitted through said eye and the opening 7 to attach the handle to the quadrant. A second locking bolt or latch 13 is mounted in the handle at a point remote from the eye 11 and is adapted to engage in any one of the openings 8 to secure the handle in a set position.
' From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a tool which may be economically produced, and which may be easily adjusted to suit the convenience of the user or the particular work to be done. The handle, in all its positions, is disposed centrally with respect to the cutting edge and the force exerted will be effectually applied.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
' relation to said edge to provide clearance.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification;
' HERMAN HERMANSON.
