This invention relates to supports, and with regard to certain more specific features, to supports for door bucks, window frames and like building units. 1 V I Among the several objects of the invention may be noted the provision of universally adjustable, portable means for supporting a door buck or the like in position, prior to building around it and permanently supportingit by extraneous building construc- 'tion; the provision of a device of the class described which is readily adaptable to supporting the buck in various locations and the provision of a device of the. class described which is light, easy to carry about and simple to apply. Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises the elements and combinations of elements, fea-; tures of construction, and arrangements of partswhich will be enemplifiedin the structure hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claims. a

Referring now more particularly to Fig. 1,.there is illustrated at numeral 1, the corner of a .door buck which is exemplary of many members to which the present invention is applicable. This corner is representative of a pair of such cornersonvevery door buck.

Referring again in particular to Fig. 1', it will be seen that'the support per se com-f prises a right and left-hand pair of braces 3, spaced from one another and adapted to be applied to opposite sides of a buck or the,
like. Each brace 3 comprises a corner plate 5 to which is riveted or otherwise rigidly fas-' tened-a strut 7 Adjacent each strut 7 is pive oted to the. corner plate 5, a double slotted guide 9, along which is movable a slide 11.

3, this figure also showing the application-of a locking screw and nut combination 13 through one guide slot for clamping and unclamping the slide 11 to and from the guide 9. It will thus be see'n th'ateach slide 11 may bepos itioned and locked in any given location or cle vation on its guide 9.
Hinged to each slide 11is aside arm brace 15 swingable in a plane at substantially a right angle to the swingor plate 5 of its respective guide 9. The purpose of the side arm braces 15 is to provide lateral support.

In order that given positions of the lateral braces 15 may be maintained in respect to the on one side only of the'laterally swingable' members, they do not prevent foldingaupnof the laterally swingable members 15 against the guides 9. The folding-;up.may:be done quickly without requiring that the wing nut 19Zbe adjusted.
Itwillbe seen that the adjusting feature of the-wing nuts 19 in connection with the sidearm braces 1'5 may be used for obtaining a-reaction to adjust=the position of the buck l ex-aetly. For instance, the support as a whole may be clamped :to the buck and the slidesl l runup-intoposition such'that a reaction isrobtainedbetween pieces-21 and the ceiling, as shownin'the" drawings. Thereafter, the wing nut 19 may bedrawn up so that the buck is iorced one way-or another, as desired, :to .obtain an "accurate alignment of the buck. At-the upper endsof the lateral braces'15 lthe pivoted channel shaped pieces 21-function'both'as supporting feet (see the leftside of :or as extensions '(see the right :sideof Fig. 1). When functioning as extensions, themembers '21 are limited in their angular rotation on the respective braces 15 by the fact that the ends of the braces 15 lie -in 1the channel space and the tendency to :turn, caused by a reaction against the ceiling,is :thus limited. It will be seen from Figs. Land '2 that the side braces '3 may be folded up by laying them against the guides 9 and running their sliders 11 down to sthe'bottomsiof the guides 9 and then folding .the guides 9 against the struts '7. The supporting members '21 may also 'be rotated into position substantially parallel with the length :of the then parallel members 7, 9, and 15. i
In order that the side braces 3 maybe held together as a unit and at the same time ibe'apw plicable to various bucks, window 'jambs, and the like they are connected by a plurality (three in the present instance) or draw screws One of these draw screws conaf neots the plates 5, one connects the ends of struts 7, and another connectsthe ends of the guides-9. Each screw passes through an opening at one end of a 'U -shaped member 25' connected to one of the braces 3. Within each 'U shaped member is a non-rotatable nut into which passes said screw. Each screw 23 at its other end passes through a collar 26 which permits rotation of the screw without longitudinal movement. Thus it is possible by means of cranks 27 connected to the screw, to draw the side braces 3 together or to permit them to be separated. Hence there is effected a clamping action on the bucks by the screw-connected braces 3.
In order that the buck may be positively gripped by the clamps or braces 3, the ends of th struts 7 and the guides 9' are. pr0vided with threadedmembers 29'the inner "ends of which are pointed as shown at numeral 28 in Fig. a and theiouter. ends of which have handles 81. By this means a definite grip may .bewfiected on the wood of the bucks, which grip may be adjusted to a degree which Will net substantially mar the surface of the bucks as would nails.
it will be understood that 'althoughthe abcvedescrip'tion showsonly one 'corn'enof abuck, that a device-such as herein disclosed may be applied to each corner.
Re the'feet 21,-itwillbe seen'that when used flat, (left ofFig. '1 they may be used against finished surfaces, such as lat-hed orplastered ones, whereas when used as shown at-the right of Fig. 1, 'it is preferable that harder survfaces suc'li :as-concrete or the like be available.
'In view of theabove, it will be seen that the several objects of the invention are achieved and other advantageous results atta'ined.
As many changes could be made in-carrying out the above constructions without-departing from "the scope of the invention, it is intended that all mattercontained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a 'limit'inggsense.
I claim:
l; Asupport of the class described comprisingclamping members adapted to, be drawn "together on a building device, each member comprising astrutand a guideyslidingmean's onsaid guides, and laterally swingablebraces on said sliding means.
2. A support of the class described comprising clamping members adapted to be drawn together on a building construction, each member comprising a strut and a guide, sliding means on said guides, and laterally swingable braces on the sliding means, said guides and said strut being relatively swingable whereby the apparatus may have all of the guide and bra-sin members laid substantially parallel.
3. A support of the class described comprising clamping members adapted to be drawn together on "a building construction,
sliding means on the two guides being movable independently of one another.
4. A support of the class described comwith said clamping means, 'slidable elements on the guide ways and relatively movable members on said sliding elements adapted to effect reaction against extraneous surfaces.
6. A device of the class described for supporting and adjusting parts of a building construction comprising a clamping means adapted to be attached to one of said parts of a building construction, guide ways included with said clamping means, slidable elements on the guide ways, laterally swingable members on said sliding elements adapted to effect a reaction against extraneous surfaces and extensible means on said laterally swingable member.
7. A device of the class described for supporting and adjusting parts of a building construction comprising a clampingmeans adapted to be attached to one of said parts of a building construction, guide ways included with said clamping means, slidable elements on the guide ways, laterally swingable members on said sliding elements adapted to effect a reaction against extraneous surfaces and mechanical adjusting means between the laterally'swin'gable members and the slidable elements permitting forcing the building construction to alignment by the reaction obtained.

A device of the class described for supporting and adjusting parts of a building construction comprising a clamping means adapted to be attached to one of said parts of a building construction, guide ways included with said clamping means, slidable elements on the guide ways, laterally swingable members on said sliding elements adapted to effect a reaction against extraneous surfaces, mechanical adjusting means between the laterally swingable members and the slidable elements permitting forcing the building construction to alignment by the reaction obtained and means for folding the laterally swingable members into parallel position with respect to their guides, the
folding operation being independent'of said adjusting operation.
9. In a device of the class described, a clamping member adapted to be attached to the sides of a construction unit, Vertical1yad said verticallyadjustable means.

In a device of the class described, a clamping member adapted to be attached to thesides of a construction unit, vertically adjustable means associated with said clamping means, lateral swingable braces pivoted to said vertically adjustable means, mechanical means for swinging said laterally swingable braces upwardly to react against an extraneous surface and extensions on said laterally swingable means.

In a device of the class described, a pair of clamping elements, screw means for drawing said clamping elements together against opposite sides of a building unit, adjustable gripping means associated therewith, said clamping elements comprlslng corner struts and p1voted gulde members, slide members movable along said guide members, laterally swingable arms pivoted to said slide members and mechanical means for causing a reaction of said arms against an extraneous surface.

In a device of the class described, a pair ofclamping elements, screw means for drawing said clamping elements together against opposite sides of a building unit, adjustable gripping means associated therewith, said clamping elements comprising corner struts andpivoted guide members, slide members movable along said guide members, laterally swingable arms pivoted to said slide members.

In a device of the class described, a pair of clamping elements, screw means for drawing said clamping elements together against opposite sides of a building unit, adjustable gripping means associated therewith, said clamping elements comprising corner struts and pivoted guide members, slide members movable along said guide members, laterally swingable arms pivoted to said slide members, mechanical means for causing a reaction of said arms against an extraneous surface, said slide members being movable independently and extensible means at the ends of said laterally swingable members.

A support of the class described comprising clamping members adapted to be drawn together on a building construction, each member comprising a strut and a guide, sliding means on said guides, laterally swingable braces on the sliding means, said guides and said strut being relatively swingable whereby the apparatus may have all of the guide and bracing members laid substantially parallel and pivoted feet on said laterally swingable braces adapted also to be folded parallel to said other members.
