Abstract
Materials used in the construction of patios and sidewalks make use of poured concrete, asphalt, stamped at the time of construction, or require the use of preformed interlocking bricks. The Playstone. Paver uses high-density polyethylene formed in the shape of bricks to create an environmentally friendly, yet durable surface, impervious to the elements and easily installed by the DIY and requiring very little, if any annual maintenance after installation.
Description
- This invention is a high-density polyethylene paving stone designed for use in construction of patios, walkways and driveways.
- Concrete and asphalt patios and sidewalks require considerable preparation to achieve a finished, durable surface sturdy base must be prepared, followed by a wire mesh grid for additional strength; this is then topped by a substantial layer of the concrete or asphalt material. More recently, the pavement has been able to be stamped and coloured. Alternately, many landscapers have resorted to interlocking bricks in such construction. For the average person or DIY, the expertise, time and effort in using such techniques prohibits them from any attempts.
- The disadvantages of the current materials can be significantly reduced utilizing high-density polyethylene pavers at least for patios, walkways and driveways. These pavers are much lighter, while at the same time, durable, easily cut to fit a variety of designs and spaces, and can be produced in a variety of colours. Time and effort are reduced in preparation, construction and ongoing maintenance. High-density olyethylene pavers are generally impervious to the elements in any locate in Canada or the continental United States.
- In drawings that illustrate the Playstone Pavers,
FIG. 1 represents the end view, with the figure on the left showing the enclosed end. The figure on the right is a cutaway showing the centre ribbing that is added for reinforcement. -
FIG. 2 represents a cross-section longitudinal view in the upper half of the diagram. The lower drawing is of the front facing of the stone. -
FIG. 3 is a view of the bottom of the paver, showing the ribbing on the underside. The robbing divides the paver into 8 compartments for reinforcement purposes. It also acts as a practical guide for shortening the paver if necessary, using a hand saw. -
FIG. 6 is another sideview of the paver. The lower drawing indicates drainage holes, which have been put in the pavers to allow for expansion and contraction. - The Playstone Paver is reinforced with ribbing. The pavers are designed to be laid on any smooth surface, either aggregate or solid, and can be arranged in whatever patterns the purchaser requires.
- Specification contains no new matter.
Claims (4)

2. The colours of the paver will be standard, but can be modified during production to meet the needs of the purchaser.
3. The pavers are washable and can be easily cleaned with a pressure washer.
4. Each paver is lighweight, yet extremely durable and will not stain or discolour under normal circumstances.
