- “Shotgunning” refers to the practice of placing a hole in the side of a beverage container with a crude object. Once this hole is placed into the side of the beverage container, the beverage container is placed up to one's mouth with the hole being directed into one's mouth. At the same time that the beverage container is placed up to one's mouth, the top of the container will be opened. Once the hole in the top of the container is opened the contents of the container will flow from the container very rapidly into one's mouth. Much beverage is routinely spilled during shotgunning and the crude hole in the side of a beverage container creates a dangerous situation where one might receive a laceration on their tongue or lip.

Abstract
The Guzzlegun is a device which will be used to “shotgun” or consume a beverage from metallic can. The Guzzlegun will provide a mouthpiece by which the liquid contents of the beverage will flow through once the Guzzle punctures the bottom of a beverage can. First, a can will be placed into the Guzzlegun. Then the mouthpiece and puncture tube assembly will be snapped closed. During the process of closing the mouthpiece and puncture tube assembly the beverage can is punctured. Next the operator will place the mouth piece into their mouth. Once the mouthpiece is in one's mouth, the top of the can will be opened. Atmospheric pressure and gravity then allow the contents of the beverage can to flow very freely from the puncture tube assembly through the tubular mouthpiece, and finally into the operator's mouth.

- The endeavor to which this invention pertains is the process of “shotgunning” a beverage from a metallic can or container. “Shotgunning” refers to the practice of placing a hole in the side of a beverage container with a crude object. Once this hole is placed into the side of the beverage container, the beverage container is placed up to one's mouth with the hole being directed into one's mouth. At the same time that the beverage container is placed up to one's mouth, the top of the container will be opened. Once the hole in the top of the container is opened the contents of the container will flow from the container very rapidly into one's mouth. Much beverage is routinely spilled during shotgunning and the crude hole in the side of a beverage container creates a dangerous situation where one might receive a laceration on their tongue or lip.
- What is needed is a device that allows shotgunning of a beverage while offering protection from injury resulting from jagged edges, and to more efficiently consume the beverage without spilling.
- The Guzzlegun is a device that a liquid container shall be placed into. The Guzzlegun shall be manufactured in such a way as to perfectly conform to the shape of the liquid container such as a beverage can. Once the liquid container is positioned within the Guzzlegun, an attached puncturing portion will be employed, possibly simultaneously with the liquid container being positioned within the Guzzlegun, to puncture the side wall of the liquid container. A puncture tube and nozzle assembly with one end of the tube portion shaped for puncturing, faces a container holder portion which has an aperture for the admittance of the puncturing tube portion therethrough affording access to the side wall of a beverage can.
- The nozzle which faces away from the container holder portion will, in most cases, be utilized as a mouthpiece for the imbibing of the liquid contents.
- As the puncture tube and nozzle assembly are swung into a position where the puncture tube will have punctured the liquid container, the puncture tube and nozzle assembly will snap or lock into place. Once snapped into position, the nozzle assemble will compress an O-ring against the outside of the Guzzlegun and/or the outside of the liquid container, thereby creating a seal.
- After the puncture tube and nozzle assembly are snapped into place, a hole will be produced by any means into the top of the liquid container. Once this hole is produced into the top of the liquid container, atmospheric pressure and gravity will allow the contents of the liquid container to flow freely out through the nozzle of the Guzzlegun.

FIG. 1A : is a side elevation of a preferred embodiment according to the present invention displaying how the nozzle will snap into place. Also shows how an O-ring will be placed around nozzle and how this o-ring will be compressed against the side of the container holder to create a liquid tight condition. -
FIG. 2A : is another side elevation of a preferred embodiment according to the present invention shown in a typical use with a beverage can inserted displaying the front view of nozzle so that it can be seen that the nozzle also functions as a conduit running into the inside of the container holder. -
FIG. 3A : is another side elevation of a preferred embodiment according to the present invention displaying the side view of the nozzle and o-ring assembly as it is seated in a closed position when snapped into place. This view shows one method of hinging the nozzle to the container holder so that it can be operated in a manner which will allow the puncturing process to occur. This view also shows o-ring being seated on nozzle in such a way that it is able to be compressed against the outside wall of the container holder. -
FIG. 4A : is a top view of a preferred embodiment according to the present invention showing the puncture tube on the inside of the container holder once the nozzle assembly is in a closed position. Also shows o-ring being compressed by nozzle assembly in a closed position. -
FIG. 5A : is an exploded view of a preferred embodiment according to the present invention displaying the nozzle piece, o-ring, puncture tube and container holder. - The container holder and nozzle/puncture tube assembly will be formed from injection molded material. The puncture tube will be ½″ outside diameter.

FIGS. 1A-6A ; - A receiving
cup 1 is shown being sized and shaped for the reception of a beverage can. Preferably, the cup is two and five eighths inches in diameter. There is one hole in the cup placed near the bottom of the cup so that it is situated just above the bottom of an inserted beverage can's side wall. There are two hinge posts on the cup above the hole. - The hinged nozzle/
mouthpiece 2, connects to the receivingcup 1 with a hinged connection which is a snap into place mechanism. The hinged nozzle/mouthpiece has a tube protruding from its body. The tube for the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece has an inside diameter of ½″, and an outside diameter of ⅞″. The beverage can is placed into the receivingcup 1 while the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2 is in an open position. Once the beverage can is placed inside of the receivingcup 1, the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2 would be returned to a closed position. During the course of the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2 to a closed position, thepuncture tube 3, will pierce a hole in the beverage can. - The
puncture tube 3 is ¾″ in length and ½″ in diameter. One end of the tube will be cut at a thirty to forty-five degree angle so as to provide a sharp end. The sharp end will be used to puncture the beverage can to create a hole. It is through this hole that the liquid from inside the beverage will travel through. Thepuncture tube 3, is formed to be an extension of the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2. Thepuncture tube 3 is joined with the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2. - A soft rubber O-
ring 4 is placed onto the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2. The O-ring is placed where the hinged nozzle/mouthpiece 2 meets the receivingcup 1 so as to create a liquid tight seal against the outside of the receivingcup 1.
Claims (5)
1. A nozzle, container holder and puncture device for use with a container for liquids. Said puncture device being tubular and conjoined on the end of said nozzle, such that said puncture device is bored into said container for liquids creating an opening in said container for liquids. Nozzle and container holder portion being of injection-molded material, said nozzle cooperating with said container holder and forming a liquid tight spout through which liquid contents of said container can be discharged, said container holder comprising:
A member which supports said container for liquids and positions said container for liquids in such a way that said puncture device bores into the said container for liquids; and
Said puncture device being attached to the said nozzle. Said nozzle being a tubular member laterally projecting out of the side of said container holder and having an open conduit communicating with said puncture device, and
Once in a closed position, said nozzle and said puncture tube assembly, working in conjunction with said container holder, will discharge the contents of said container for liquids. Said discharge will occur once the said container for liquids is punctured by said puncture device and a separate hole is produced into the top of said container for liquids. The contents of said container for liquids will flow through said puncture device and subsequently through said nozzle.
2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said nozzle working in conjunction with said container holder enables the said nozzle to be removable and attached by a snap fit.
3. The apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprised by said nozzle being fixedly attached to said container holder.
4. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the said nozzle, or said container holder, or said puncture device is of plastic, polymer, ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal, porcelain, glass, fiberglass, wood material, or any other building material suitable for this application.
5. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the said nozzle, or said container holder, or said puncture device is created by any manufacturing method.
