  • 2. Description of the Related Art
  • Hair clips having two combs are known to exist in at least two general varieties. The first variety includes a spring and hinge between the two combs wherein the two combs are separated with a force, coupled with hair and then released to engage the hair with the force of the spring. The other variety of two comb devices generally includes two combs coupled to one another with at least two opaque elastic members.
  • With respect to two comb combinations held together with at least two opaque elastic members, the elastic members enable a larger lateral displacement of the two combs with respect to the hinged variety. Most of these types of two comb devices include decorative beads and/or weaving between the two combs. The decorative beads and/or weaving in known two comb devices are opaque and therefore visible. The decorative beads and/or weaving are situated between the two combs are opaque specifically to be seen and add a fashionable element between the two combs. Since the two combs are generally embedded in hair, only the top portion or body of the combs is generally visible. Known two comb devices are generally provided with fixed length elastic members that are not adjustable with respect to the distance between the combs. The elastic portion between the two combs is generally made from a material that can easily engage hair and produce tangles. In addition, known elastic members are not interchangeable and are designed to permanently attach between the two combs to produce a durable coupling and avoid accidental disengagement for example. Hence, the elastic members are always the same for a specific two comb device. Many such devices provide large spines to provide sufficient resistance to bending. The large spines provide a larger lever that tends to pull the combs upward and away from the head of a user for example. These types of devices also tend to torque the teeth of the combs into the head of a user that causes discomfort as well. Other such devices include a raised portion of the spine to hide the coupling elements utilized to engage the ends of the elastic members. This also provide areas that may cause hair to become tangled and do not provide for interchangeable elements to be utilized between the two combs.
