Description

    BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
  • Backpacks industry right now is only hitting the extremes: base model or luxury model. The contemporary base model makers say there focusing on strong quality, fabrics, new colors, but the backpack is the same as when it was first popularized in the 70's. This is 95% of backpack makers old and new from Jan-sport to Herschel Supply to the generic backpacks. The other 5% are the other side of the extreme dealing with innovation, novelty and fad design. They are the “pop culture” bag, but are not your everyday bag. They are loud statement backpacks but such a statement can only be loud when minimally used. That explains there constant creations of different prints. 90% of their bag's designs use very popular and what's happening now prints, shoes, music, etc. The other 10% have additives like wings for a bird bag, etc. They are not an everyday bag, more so a novelty or collector's item.
  • There is no individually designed everyday backpack in between the two extremes. The Penny bag will speak to the progressive middle class and college student. The Penny represents the everyday affordable luxury lifestyle backpack with a detachable hood and braided shoulder straps giving a suspenders and professional look when needed. Everyday luxury is subtle with its differences, but acknowledged, a humble champion. This makes it appealing and acceptable to the progressives of the middle as well as college students. The Penny is the “thoroughbred” the Triple Crown of backpacks, the horse that speaks of its ability of its hard work without speaking. Progressives enjoy being able to speak of their attainments without speaking. Yes you could get a base model but that doesn't speak progressive's language. There is no everyday luxury status symbol in backpacks. Only the extremes, their only options are to be like everybody else or be a novelty/collector's item. Backpacks are meant to be used, the facet comes into play by how long they last how well they age and remain relevant to their message. The Company Au, has created a backpack. The Penny that will represent what the product gives you, gold, the timeless currency.
  • In 1996, U.S. Pat. No. 6,134,712, invented by Spector; was a backpack that also had an attached raincoat and detachable hood. While there is a detachable hood, we will not have a raincoat portion to diminish capacity of the backpack space and our straps will be braided giving a more penny loafer/professional look when needed.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The bag will also have a detachable hood 5 that is attached to the interior of the shoulder straps 3 and the back portion of the backpack. On the interior of the shoulder straps 3 there will be slots 6 where the front portion of the hood attaches to the straps 3 of the backpack by but not exclusive to snap buttons, snap buckles, Velcro, snap hooks, side release buckles, carabineers, spring links, cam and spring buckles, tongue airline and military buckles 4. • The Penny's uniqueness comes in their design. Backpacks today only carry one function because of their design. For example you have school backpacks, hiking backpacks, sports backpacks, work backpacks, etc., but there are no backpacks designed that allows for a multitude of uses. The Penny backpack will bring versatility. The shoulder straps 3 of the bag will be braided given it the look of suspenders. Suspenders like the penny loafer are timeless staples to the wardrobe and can be worn in many different environments from casual to dress. The penny loafer backpack with the braided shoulder straps will provide an ivy league/prep look on the backpack which has yet to be done. Also with the addition of the detachable hood on select bags it offers another level of individuality and bridging the gap between functionality and versatility. The hood allows the backpack to further crossover from dressing up to dressing down with buying another backpack. Backpacks and hooded sweatshirts over the years have become Siamese twins with one always accompanied by the other. This bag allows for you to continue that trend with the detachable hood giving the wearer the ability to switch up hoods like he would a hooded sweatshirt.
