IMPROVED SPR|N.GBEDSTEAD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,680, dated June 19, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUS LAPHAM, of the city, county, and State of New York, haveinvented a new and useful Device for Applying Springs to Bedsteads, Sofas, Lounges, 85e.; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of bedstead; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the mode of fastening the center piece, a; Fig. 3, end view of the springs.
l provide a center piece, a, of any desired dimension or material, constructing the saine so as to leave the interstices b b b b in such manner that the springs c c c may incline upward at a given angle for the reception of the cross-piece or spring d d d. Said center piece a is fastened in any manner to the head and foot boards Vof the bedstead, sofa, or lounge, or keyed in the manner as shown in the drawings. The springs c c c are constructed in such manner as to tit the iuterstiees b l) b snugly,
