ATTACHMENT TO COOKlNG-STOVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,266, dated July 10, 1866.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROWLAND I. RATHBUN, of Poplar Ridge, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York. have invented a new and Improved Attachment to Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and us". the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an end elevation of my invention applied to a cook-stove. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan or top view.

My invention consists in an attachment to a stove so constructed and combined therewith that a shelf or place on which to place cooked victuals for keeping them warm may be provided.

A designates an ordinary cook-stove, which I have illustrated to show the application thereto of my invention.

To the legs of the stove, near the backpart and pipe thereof, there are secured standards B B, which are of a sufficient height to be oted at each end in the two standards B in such manner that it can, on turning a rod, b, connected to it by arms 0 c, be thrown up against the stove-pipe if it be desired to have it entirely out of the Way. It can of course. be let down in the same way, and when down it is supported in a horizontal position. This shelf 0, whether perforated or solid. provides a place on which to set dishes of victuals to keep them warm while other foods are being cooked; also, a place on which to set pans of dough to raise the same, and for a multitude of uses where the oven or the stove-hearth, or a chair or stool set up against the stove, are now employed. Thus a convenient and useful attachment to a stove is provided by my invention.

I do not limit myself to the means of attaching the shelf to the stove herein described, nor do I limit myself to the number of such shelves employed. It is obvious that a device answering in all respects a similar purpose could be attached to different parts of the stove and in different ways.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with the stove, of a shelf, 0, constructed and arranged so as to accomplish the purposes specified.
