IMPROVEMENT .IN, oonsnisn BLAcKIuo BRUSH AND BOX- flit: firteru le marsh in in flgrss firttersfizrtmt mitt mating yzwt'ni flgr smut.
Be it'known that I, FRANK HATCH,'0f La Crosse, in the county of La. Crosse, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a newand useful article for blackingboots an adjustable and attachable Liquid Blacking Reservoir attachable to any ordinary blacking brush; and I do hereby declare that the followingtis a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1 (one) is a perspective view.
, Letter A is the handle of the brush; letter B is the reservoir, attachableto any brush by straps of tin or 'other material; letter O is an opening in theside of the reservoir covered by a thumb-screw or filled with a cork;
letter D is a wire rod, running on top ofthe reservoir through rests at each end; letter E is a spiral spring, placed on the end of the wire rod, secured by a nut; letter F is a lever or trigger, attached to the handle of the brush insuch manner as to pressagainst the-spiral spring; letterG is a valve, attached to the rod that runs on top of the reservoir in such manner as to cover the end of a discharging-spout her inaft r named; letter His a discharging-spout for the reservoir; letter I is the swab brush; letterJ is the." polishing brush. The liquidblacking reservoir will be constructed of any materials that can be used without departing from my'invention.
The operation of the liquid-blocking reservoir is as follows, (when attached to any b'lacking brush Take a firm hold of the handle A turn the brush sol that the reservoir B comes next to the boot; let the swab brush I rest on any part of the boot where you wish blacking applied let the thumb press upon-the lever 13 with suificient force to move the spring E, which forces the valve G to open and allow the blacking to flowon to the swab brush I, where it is applied to the boot. The pressure of the thumb upon the lever will be understood to govern the application of blacking in proportion to the length of time the operator holds the valve open. When a suflicient quantity of blacking is applied, and properly spread by use of the swab brush-I, turn the brush over and use the polishing brush J to complete the work.
By the invention of this adjustable and attachable liquid-blacking reservoir, that can be attached to any blacking brush by strapsof tin, it affords the public the advantage of a great convenience at small expense, as but slight alterationis required to place it upon any kind of. brush.
What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-" t The combination of an adjustable and attachable liquid-blacking reservoir, as set forth in specification and drawings accompanying my application.
FRANK HATCH.
