Patented Mar. 15, 1898.

llrrn TATES,
STOPPER FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,725, dated March 15, 1898.
Application filed April 26, 1897- Serialll'o. 633,861. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LFERDINAND A. KEIMER,a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stoppers for Bottles, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stoppers for bottles, jugs, jars, and similar vessels; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is particularly adapted for use in connection With a spring clamp or lock such as is usually employed in connection with beer-bottles, mineral-water bottles, and other bottles or vessels of this class.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the neck of a bottle or other vessel provided with my improved stopper, and Fig. 2 a sectional side View of the stopper.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at 5 the neck of an ordinary bottle, the upper portion of which is enlarged to form an annular shoulder, as shown at 6, and in the practice of my invention I provide a stopper which consists of a core 7, which is provided with a circular head .8, in which is formed a transverse passage 9,
and the lower end of the core 7 is preferably slightly conical in form, the smaller end thereof being directed downwardly, and the extreme lower end of said core 7 is provided with a screw-thread 1.1. I also provide a casit so that the screw-thread 11 at the lower end of said core will out into the inner walls of the lower end of the casing and securely hold said casing in place. I have also shown an ordinary spring-lock or fastening device for holding the cork or stopper in position, and
said spring-lock or fastening device consists of the usual bail or loop 14, the cross-head of which passes through the opening or transverse passage 9 in the head 8 of the stopper, and secured to the lower ends of said bail or loop is the usual spring-yoke 15, and connected therewith is a wire16, which passes around the neck of the bottle below the annular shoulder or projection 6; but these parts are of the usual construction and form no part of my invention except when used in connection with my improved stopper.
The core 7 of my improved stopper and the head 8 thereof are preferably composed of glass, and my improvement is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described stopper for bottles or other vessels, comprising a core 7, provided with a circular head 8, having a transverse passage 9, said core 7, being conical in form, the smaller end being directed downwardly and the extreme lower end of the said core 7, being provided with a screw-thread 11, a casing 12 mounted on said core, the upper end thereof being provided with an annular flange or rim 13, said casing being integral throughout; and a bail mounted in said transverse opening, substantially as and for the purpose described. 7
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 23d day of April, 1897.
FERDINAND A. KEIMER.
