Description

@eine tats; getest'. @ffice l A. B. CLARK, O F A U13-URN, MAS SACHUvS-ETTS. Leners Patent No. 61,804, datesletmry 5,1867.
IMPROYED EDGE PLANE EUR BOOTS AND SHOES.
ilge tlgemtle referrer tu im tiges tettets ateirt :un making gmt 'nf tigt same'.
KNOW' ALL'MEN BY THESE PRESENTS That- I, A. B. CLARK, of Auburn, in the county of Worcester, Vand Commonwealth of Massachusetts, havev invented certain new and useful Improvements in Edge Planes for Boots and Shoes and I do hereby declare that the followinr.,r is a. full, clear, and exact description of the sume, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming :t part of this specit'iczttion, in which- Figure l represents :L perspective View et` my improved edge plone.
Figure 2 represents u longitudinal central section through the operative p'nrt of the device, fig. '17, on line indicated by line A Big. 3l v Figure 3 represents n. longitudinal central section of the operative part of the device on line indicated by line'C D, fig. 2. Y
To enable these skilled in the :i1-t to which my invention belongs to make and Vuse the same, will proceed to describe it.
In the drawings, the port marked A represents the handle; B the metall shank', which is` connectedto 0r cust with the headjpiec'e C, which is slotted'or cored out,vtis seen et a. The sides'E E of the head-piece C are recessed or greovedout crosswise at the top to receive the plane F,(whieh is made slightly arching or in curved form, both longitudinnlly :uid latterally, es indicated in the drawing. r The side pieces E E are groeved or recessed out longitudinally nezir their `frontV edges, es seen at I), te receive-the projections c c on the adjustable month-piece G. which is'provided with u screw, d, which Vextends down through the slotted base of bead-piece C, ns shown in figs. l :lud Within the cross-slot e ofthe lieed'piece C is placed a milled nut, through which the' screw 1, attached to themouth-pieee G,'p.tsses. By turning nut f the moutl1-piece G can be raised or lonered te cnuse the. pinne F to cut more dr lcssin depth, es may-be desired. The top of side piece E projects out nt the top, as shown nt Il, und husa. slot or recess, g, cut therein to receive u'milled nut, h, which works on the screw j, connected with the side guide piece 1:, whereby the operator can, byoturning the milled vnut L, move the side guide piece 7c over the face 'ofthe plane F, as indicated in red lines, lig. 3, und thereby redilee the width e? eut oi' plane F. The side piece E is cut down from top to` bottom, as shown 'at m, whereby the operator een, hy turning the thumb-screw I upon the end 'of the screw-bult J, so far springl tite sideE as to bind the plone F'iirmly inl its place in the grooves n n .in the. t -ps of the side pieces E E. Screw-bolt J has a. head, ,0, which tits in u recess in the side E, while v. washer, p, is placed upon its outer end before the thumb-sereni I is screwed on, :is fully indicated inthe drawings. The 'cutting edge of the plone F is eoucatedor circled out, as shown at q. This arrangement of the plane renders 'the cut more perfect, and the {inish of the Work better than -Wheh performed by plaines constructed in the ordinary manner. By my improved pla-ne the edges of"thesoles of boots and shoes con be trimmed und finished in :in expeditious und neat manner. The -plane, too, can be very quickly adjusted to eut at any required depth and width.A
Huving described myimproved edge lune for boots and shoes, what claim. therein :Lsnevf` und of my vinvention, und desire to secure by Letters Potent, is- Y l. The combination, with the sides E E', of the plune F and' the sereW-boltJ and thumbfnut I, substantinlly as set forth.
2. The combination, with the sides E and E', of the adjustable mouth-piece Gr :md side guide c, with their adjustable screws d and j, and nuts f :md z, substantially as set forth. A
