IMPROVEMENT IN LADIES THIMBLES.

TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN:

Bo it known that I, JOHN STEPHEN, of Womelsdorf, in the county of Berks, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thimbles; nndido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionl thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings making part of this specification-- A represents a thimble, which is intended to be used upon Jthe finger for sewing. The outer end of this thimhle is provided with numerous' indentations, as is usually the ease. These indentations extend down ou the sides of the thimhle about twothirds of its length, and from where they leave oi` to the ring efat the mouth, is a fseries of grooves, :l: x, which 'radiate from -the ring toward the end of the thimhle. The ring eis provided with :i groove at the end of the grooves x as seen. The object of the grooves in the sides of the thimble is to catch the end of the needle in case it slips from the indentations, and guide it into the groove of the ring e, where it is stopped and prevented from doing injury to the finger of the wearer.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim :is new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

' A thimble provided with the radiating grooves :12, and at their ends with the groove in the ring or flange e, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
