ToALL WHoM rr MA1( ooNoERN: l p
Be it known that'I, A. CANFIELD, of Lyons, Clinton county, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in'O'ne-Horse Corn-P1oughs; and Ido herebyr declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanyingv drawings, and the. letters of reference marked thereon.
Y The nature of my invention consists in so constructing and arranging a one-horse corn-plough, where the frame is of wood, that its width may be increased or diminished at will; also that it may cast the earth either to or from the, corn.
Toenableothers skilled in the art to construct and operate my plough, I will carefully describe its construction and operation.
A A represent the' adjustable beams; B represents the clevis-to join beams; C C represent the bolts in elevis; D D represents the regulatingl bar; E E represent the pins in 4bar D D; F, G, and J, the shovels; H H, the handles; K, the stationary beam; L, the position of the beams A A, when the plough is made narrower; S shows thejoint in beams A A. 4I lconstruct beams A A and K, arms H H, shovels F, G, and J, with their attachments in the ordinary manner, claiming no patent therefor. In the beams A.A I have a joint shown at S, Figures 1, 2, and 3, to allow' the `regulating the width of thel plough. I connect the two parts of the beam by means of a two-bolted clevis, as shown at B, fig. 2. The elevis allows the opening and closing of the beams AA. I construct a regulating or stay-har, D D, of-wood or any suitable material, .fastening it rmly to the centre beam K. To this centrebeam I attach the handles, as shown in iig. 3.
I Now, the operationof this plough is as follows; If we desire to increase' or lessen the width, remove the pins EE, bring the-beams A-A to the required width, place the pin through holes made to corres-pond in bar D and beams A A, and it is firmly confined and quickly done. If we wish to cast' the earth to or from the corn,
remove the shovel stocks F'l andJ 1 by taking them oli' the beams A A, and change them to either side, asA
desired. If we wish a twoshovel plough, remove one of the beams Avby uncoupling the clevis BA and removing the pin E; if a single plough, remove 'both the arms A A, leaving only the single beam K, and we have a single plough.`
Thus we have in this arrangement the convenience Vof three machines in one; it making a. single, double,
. or three-shovel corn-plough.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is-.
1. The double-bolted clevis B for the purpose described.
2. The adjustable stay-bar D for the purpose above described.
3. The combination and arrangement of a one-horse corn-plough that may be readily changed to any required width, also changed to any number .of'shovels, from one to three, making a single, double, or threeshovel plough. ANDREW CANFIELD.
